Top 5 Fantasy Studs - Hitters

Ryan Norris
Through May, the fantasy baseball season has already offered up surprises and disappointments. As always, some players out perform their value, while others leave much to be desired by their fantasy owners. For the early part of the season, here are the top five fantasy studs:

1. Matt Holliday, OF, Colorado Rockies.
Among the league leaders in almost every hitting category, Matt Holliday has been a man among children out in the wild wild National League West division. Holliday has been nothing less that studly for his fantasy owners. Having Holliday has definitely given fantasy owners an advantage, particularly in Average and On-base Percentage. Holliday wouldn't be a bad trade option for owners who don't currently have him, but keep in mind that his early season dominance is sure to give him a high asking price. Right now Holliday is a sure thing All-star.

2. Jose Reyes, SS, NY Mets.
If you're looking for a Mr. Do-It-All, then Jose Reyes is most definitely your guy. Reyes has more than 20 steals in the first two months of the season as well as a great average and on-base percentage. He has been an MVP caliber lead-off man for the Mets by being among the league leaders in runs scored, steals, average, and on-base percentage. The question now is, is there anything Reyes can't do? The high pick most fantasy owners used on Reyes seems to have been well warranted.

3. Vladimir Guerrero, OF, LA Angels.
Vlad the Impaler has lived up to his billing. Guerrero has been a dominant force thus far this season and has put the Angels on his back for a run at the American League West division title. Vlad's power numbers have been impressive as always, but he has displayed his all-around game by posting an average above .340 and on-base numbers well over .400. After a massive early-May homerun in Kansas City that bounced off the Titantron, we're left wondering where exactly can you pitch Vlad Guerrero?

4. Magglio Ordonez, OF, Detroit Tigers.
Ordonez has been one of the best early season surprises. He has remained healthy so far this season and has shown that he can be the same All-star caliber player that he was in Chicago. The power numbers have given fantasy owners great value thus far this season and should continue. Currently, he is on pace for another 30 homerun, 100 RBI season. Let's keep a close eye on him and hope that he stays healthy.

5. Alex Rodriguez, 3B, NY Yankees.
April was a big month for A-rod, but May has been much more of a struggle. The recent slumping has not only cost the Yankees, but possibly some of his fantasy owners as well. While recently, A-rod has been no stud, but we couldn't keep him off of the list after his amazing April.
