Top 5 Fashion Magazines to Keep You Fashion Forward

Damisha Ricks
What are the my top 5 fashion magazines? Essence magazine came in first. It was culturally diverse and offered an array of topics to read about. It was easy to relate to being a consumer of color. The magazine is not afraid to attack real issues such as the political race but offering its spin of best dressed with Michelle Obama in the running. Essence allows it's readers to become fashion forward along with the issues that surround their lives. An interesting column that caught my eye on-line at www.essence.com was "Salon Buzz". I continually look for ways to do my hair but keeping it healthy in the process, it offered stylist advice that helped me in my own hair care career. Then it attacked the age old question of what a man is thinking in Men Uncensored. The black man has been a mystery since he is not often portrayed in entertainment in a positive light. It gave opinions of how successful men view relationships and how you can help yourself, a woman, in different situations.

The number two pick is Cosmogirl! It appeals to a younger generation inspiring their creativity and fashion sense. It show how they can get the latest fashions on their budget, which often is no where close to their celeb counterparts. For the teen who wants to be a model the website www.cosmogirl.com offered a section on "ask a model". What caught my eye was the "do-it yourself" section. It gave in expensive solutions to creating fashions similar to the "in" style. Image is important to everyone, especially teens who are trying to find themselves.

I could forget my number three choice of Cosmopolitan. The cover models appeal to me because they are not your typical model. They mirror what the general public looks like. It not only attacks our fashion senses but our relationship sense. It offers advice on how to catch a man's eye and keep his attention. It is not afraid to help in the department of intimate relationships. The information can be found on www.cosmopolitan.com as well.

If you want to be chic take a look at the number four pick Elle magazine. It samples fashion from around the world. It does not offer just one look. You can find your own style within the pages. Right now they are focusing on the recent fall fashion shows and gearing up your interest on Spring Fashion 2009. The column "Skin Deep" takes a look at what celebrities are doing with their own fashions. If you had an interest in models/celebrities are doing in fashion on a daily basis check out "wardrobe diaries". Its draw back was the models who cannot seem to find in any food, not to mention color. Elle has not attempted to meet the needs of many in the rest of the population who have a completely different body types than it's models. WWW.elle.com was a great source if you do not have the time to sit and read the whole magazine.

Last but not least is Vogue. I appreciate that the cover models look "real". It was interesting to me how they, being a fashion magazine, were not afraid to tackle real issues such as politics. On www.vogue.com to keep up with the trends on trend reports. "Backstage Confidential" helps to keep an eye on what goes on backstage with models on hair and makeup tips.
