Top 5 Favorite Songs of the 90's

Nancy Parker
I spent some of my most formidable years in the 1990's. Looking back on the decade, the thing that pops into my mind is the music. I absolutely love 90's music. The boy bands, the bubble gum pop music, the grunge, all of it was fantastic. Even to this day, my iPod is filled with 90's music. Below are my top 5 all time favorite 90's songs.

5. Oasis - "Wonderwall"

Oasis is a British band started by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. Noel and Liam are probably more famous for constantly feuding back and forth than they are for their music. However, on a fateful day in May 1995, Oasis cemented themselves as one of the top groups of the 90's when they recorded "Wonderwall". Noel wrote the song about a girl he met at a concert while on tour with the band. In 2008, Liam was quoted as saying he hated singing this song. While the Gallagher brothers may hate this song, it will live on with me as one of the greatest songs of the 90's.

4. Vanilla Ice - "Ice Ice Baby"

There is no denying the catchiness of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby". This song and Vanilla Ice are just filled with drama and controversy. The song does sample the bassline of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure", which Vanilla Ice did get in trouble for, and Vanilla Ice was widely seen as a sell out and had no street cred what so ever. For me, I don't even care about any of this, and I am not ashamed to say that when this song pops up on my ipod, I still know all of the words.

3. Salt-n-Pepa and En Vogue - "Whatta Man"

"Whatta Man" was on Salt-n-Pepa's fourth studio album that was released in September 1993. This song is a sound bite for every road trip I took in the 90's. We would travel around the U.S., and my sister's and I would make mixed tapes for the trip. Because we all loved this song much we recorded it over and over on 1 tape. Whenever we needed a little pick me up, we would pop in the tape and listen to this song a few times. I'm sure it drove our parents absolutely insane, but we loved. Whenever I hear this song today, I'm instantly taken back to those long car trips.

2. Madonna - "Vogue"

"Vogue" was a song that was quickly thrown together to go on the flipside of "Keep it Together". The song was inspired by the dance performed in the underground gay clubs in New York. "Vogue" is proof that greatness can come from anywhere; this song was just thrown on the flipside of a song that the record label was hoping would be successful. Little did anyone know how successful this song would actually become. Not to mention the dance craze that spawned from the song and video. I mean, who doesn't like to bust out some sweet vogueing moves every now and then.

1. Spice Girls - "Wannabe"

The Spice Girls were a manufactured girl pop group from Great Britain. I can't think back on the 90's and not think of the Spice Girls, they were quite possibly the biggest cultural icon of the 90's. In 1996 they released their first single, "Wannabe" that would catapult them into super stardom. I remember hearing this song for the first time and telling my mom we had to go to the store immediately to buy this album, and this was the first CD I ever bought. This song became an anthem for girl power and female empowerment. As a young girl growing up, I couldn't help but love
