Top 5 Feel Good New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions that Will Make You Feel Good

Nikki Freeman
Every year, we make New Year's resolutions that are difficult to keep. They normally involve uncomfortable avoidance of things that make us happy: Food, fun, spending money, etc. While these resolutions are inspired and ambitious, how about adding a few more resolutions to your list that are easy to keep because they will ultimately make you feel good?

Here are my top five New Year's resolutions that will make you feel good about yourself once accomplished. They are easy tasks, things you probably already wanted to do, but priority wise have put them on the back burner. Take a few moments and some effort this year to accomplish one, two or a few of these things and you will get all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that you've accomplished something small, but worthwhile!

#1-Feel Good New Year's Resolution:Write a thoughtful, endearing and sincere letter.

E-mail is overrated when it comes to the heart. Write a real live (Gasp!) hand written letter to someone who stays on your mind as a positive influence in your life. If your mother comes into your mind every time something great happens in your life, because you know it's her wonderful inspiration, write her a letter and let her know! Take some time to yourself and substantiate your appreciation for someone, they will appreciate and you will be happier knowing that you've given back a little to someone who has given you so much.

#2-Feel Good New Year's Resolution:Keep some long overdue promises.

Sometimes we make promises, obligations, statements that are ever fully realized. I'm not talking about paying the mortgage on time, how about taking a friend out for her past-due birthday when you couldn't make the date? Visit an old friend or relative that you have been meaning to see. There are a lot of small promises that you might make to people, both they and you know it might not come to fruition. Follow through with one of these, surprise someone, make them feel special and you will feel special too!

#3-Feel Good New Year's Resolution:Pay back a generous debt.

Has someone lent you $20, $5, $1,000, never really expecting you to pay them back? Save a little money every month, or simply take some out of your savings and return a debt that you owe. They may not directly expect you to pay them back right away, but it will take a great burden off your shoulders, build trust between you and your "lender" and ultimately give you a stronger character.

#5-Feel Good New Year's Resolution: Apologize, even if you really don't want to.

Did you say something hurtful to someone and never really feel any implications for your words? Wrongly accuse someone of something, and never admit that you were inaccurate in your accusation? Lash out at an innocent party because you were upset with someone/something else? Let this person know you were wrong. Words are powerful, and even if you think it has blown over, you never know how your words might have affected someone. Apologize for yourself, selflessly, don't expect a positive reciprocation, simply apologize and make peace with them and yourself.

These may not apply to everyone, but I'm sure that is something on this list that you can identify with. Do yourself a favor; take a few moments to lift these small burdens off your life. You will feel better, positively effect another human being, and build your character all at the same time!
