Boston is an historic city full of history and mystery, so this makes it a great place to visit. However, if you are on a budget you may be thinking that you will miss out on all of the great things that the city has to offer. Never fear though because there are several free things to do in Boston that will keep you busy and entertained throughout your stay.
Bunker Hill Monument
If you want to get a full view of the Boston skyline, this is the place to go and do it. Of course, you will have to climb 294 stairs to get to the top though. However, once you are basking in the brilliance of the skyline, all of that exercise will be worth it.
Sam Adams Brewery Tours and Tastings
The brewery is located at 30 Germania Street in Boston. The tours are on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tours are free, but a $2.00 donation is appreciated and all donations are donated to local charities. You must be over 21 to take part in the sampling part of the tour and a valid ID will be necessary.
GPS Tours
While you do not necessary need a GPS, this is recommended for those who do not know the city. Simply grab a GPS and think of a theme. For example, if sports are your thing, map out the best sports spots in the city and use your GPS to find them. If politics and history is your thing, try the JFK Trail.
Massachusetts Historical Society
This is located at 1154 Boylston Street in Boston. Here you can get a real taste of Boston history. You can look at historical artifacts and manuscripts. Throughout the week, numerous tours are given, as well as multiple seminars.
The Freedom Trail
This trail is 2.5 miles long and consists or red-painted line or red brick. You should start at the Visitor Information Center located on the Boston Common. As you make your way along this trail, you will find 16 historic stops. Some notable ones include Paul Revere's house, Faneuil Hall and the Old North Church.
These are just a sampling of the great things Boston has to offer and best of all, these are all free activities.
