Yes, it is possible to have fun this summer without spending a dime. I chose these activities because I think they're fun. And in my experience, I rarely have to pay money to do them. When planning your summer outings, keep these in mind if you're on a tight budget. Even if you're not saving money, these options are still fun for the whole family!

Attend Free Festivals

Sure, not every festival is free. But, some of the best ones are! Check your local newspaper or look online to find the best festivals in your area. If you do opt to go to a free festival be careful. Some of them depend on making money through refreshments, rides, etc.

The best festivals to attend where you won't need to spend money include those that involve music and the theater. I love finding free jazz and oldies concerts. Bring your own chair and some snacks and you could spend hours listening to the band and socializing with those around you.

Visit Your Local Park

Most communities have local parks that don't require an entrance fee. Look for parks that have hiking, fishing, and other activities that your family will enjoy. Some also have free programs and lectures. You may opt to bring a picnic lunch, but if the food comes out of your existing grocery budget then it is still a cost effective way to have fun without spending much.
