Amaya Web Browsing and Authoring: This program is more than just a free WYSIWYG HTML Editor, it's also a web browser. It's produced by the W3C, the World Wide Web Consortium, the group in charge of web coding standards, so you know that using this program will mean your code comes out clean and works well in multiple browsers. It supports HTML, CSS, and XML. It is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux based computer systems.
Trellian WebPAGE: This free WYSIWYG HTML Editor includes support for HTML and CSS. There are several useful features including a meta tag editor, absolute element positioning, and support for many photoshop plugins and image formats. This program is available on the Windows platform.
Bluefish: This program is very lightweight and does not use as much of the system resources as other editors do. There is support for many of the web development and computer programming languages used today, including Python, Ruby, and JavaScript in addition to the standard languages such HTML and CSS. This program is good for novice and expert web designers.
NVU: This free WYSIWYG HTML editor is perhaps the most like Adobe Dreamweaver, and as such is very popular. There is a lot of support in the community to help you get started with the program, and extensive tutorials and videos. It is the same thing as another popular editor KompoZer, and has essentially replaced it.
SeaMonkey: SeaMonkey is an open source project from Mozilla. It includes an HTML editor known as Composer, along with an Internet Browser and Email client. It is a great program for beginners and advanced users. It is available for the Windows platform.
Never worry about having to pay for software to develop awesome websites again with these five free WYSIWYG HTML editors. All of these editors have excellent support communities and documentation to help you learn how to use them. Plenty of information on these programs can be found at Bright Hub. The important thing to remember about Open Source web development programs is that they are developed and maintained by volunteers and it takes hard work and donations to keep them alive. Using these programs is a great way to show your support.
