Golf - a game of royalty. It is a game played widely throughout Europe and many great golf courses of the world can be found there. It is a game played on a grassy area called a fairway where people hit small balls with various sizes of clubs aiming for a small hole sometimes over several hundred yards away. Many European summit meetings include a round or two. If you are a golfer, you may want to take a swing at one of these fabulous courses. Below is a list of some of the best.

1. St. Andrews, Scotland
St. Andrews is in the country of Scotland which is located in the United Kingdom. It is believed that the modern game actually started here on the Old Course in 1552. This course is where the PGA tour Open Championship is played here every 5 of so years. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews club is located on the the first tee, but is only one of many clubs located along the course. This club has three main courses; the kings course, the queens course, and the centenary course, which has played host to several PGA tours. It also has something that not many other top courses have -- a wee course for beginners. You can stay at the resort for as low as 125pounds which includes 1 round of golf.

3. Valderrama Golf Club, Andalucia, Spain
Designed by PGA golfer Robert Trent Jones Sr., it is the most famous club in all of Spain and has hosted some of golf's greatest golf tournaments, including the only Ryder Cup played outside of either the United States or the United Kingdom. It has some unique holes such as one with a waterfall and a fairway with a tree through the center to make them challenging. Greens fees start at 30,000 pasetas. Nearby is the La Manga resort area where rooms can be rented for as low as 217 pounds a night.

4. Wentworth Golf Club, Surrey, England
Well-known PGA players such as Jack Niklaus and Arnold Palmer have played at Wentworth and plaques with their names on them grace the clubhouse walls. Wentworth is the only golf club that can boast three different professional tournaments. It has three separate courses, with the newest one being named after Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. Since there are no carts on the West course in winter, you may want to consider bringing a lighter weight golf bag if you plan on visiting that time of year. There are hotels nearby for as low as 63.00(USD) or you can stay at the hotel at Wentworth for as low as 90pounds.

5. Domaine de Terre Blanche, France
This course is a newer course than the others, but has courses for all levels of play. It is located with a view of awesome valleys and villages left over from the middle ages. It greens have been cut to appear longer and narrower than most greens at other courses. This is a Four Seasons property and is one of the most luxurious hotels in France. It offers several packages starting at 438 euros, without golf. If you want golf included, the packages start at 695 euros.
