Top 5 Green Day Songs of All Time

Jimmy Smith
Green Day is a great band with a lot of songs, they have seven studio albums with an eighth one coming out soon. Green Day was one of the best bands of the 90's and one of the few to smoothly transition into the 2000's relatively easily. They haven't been putting out that much music lately, but they still have a lot of material out there and with the new album coming they will have any more. So with out further interruption here are the top five Green Day songs ever, period.

5. Basketcase-

The bands most popular song definitely has to be on here. This song put them on the map and catapulted their debut album "Dookie" to the number one spot. Everybody knows the words to this song still to this day, thats how many times it was played on the airwaves.

4.Time of Your Life-

This is another smash hit that was a different side of Green Day, a more mellow and mature side, it was off the bands third album "Nimrod" . "It's something unpredictable but in the end was right", became everybody's graduation song, wedding song or end of the party song and captured the imaginations of people everywhere.

3.Boulevard of Broken Dreams-

This song cemented the bands comeback in 2004 and helped propel their album "American Idiot" to sell more then 5 million copies in the U.S. This was easily the most popular single on the bands comeback album and was definitely one of the more important songs for the band and deserves to be number three. Some may argue there are better Green Day songs then this, but for the band, this song and "American Idiot" meant a lot for restoring their confidence.

2.Welcome to Paradise-

This song was really on the bands second album "Kerplunk" and is also one of the main reasons the bands label Reprise, signed them to a major deal. This was probably one of the most influential songs of the decade along with a very influential album I might add. This song was also including on "Dookie".

1.Longview-

"I sit around and watch the tube but nothings on". Billie Joe Armstrong described the whole 90's generation with this song and the laziness of kids today. This song was the first single off of the album "Dookie" which is another reason why it claims the top spot. A lot of people think Basketcase was the first single, but Longview in fact was.

And that raps up the top 5 Green Day songs of all time, look for the new album "21st Century Breakdown", in stores this May, 2009.
