To begin with, there's the tried and true method of shaving. Shaving your pubic area is cheap and quick. It can be done in the shower, with or against the direction of hair growth, preferably with shaving cream or lotion. It's also fairly precise, as you are controlling the razor. For a little more excitement, presuming you trust your partner around your delicate parts, having him or her shave you can be exhilarating. The downside of shaving is that many people get bumps or pimples a couple of days after shaving. Ingrown hairs can appear and are somewhat painful. If you shave a little too vigorously, you might nick yourself too. Both positive and a negative, depending on your outlook, shaving is the least permanent. If you or your partner doesn't like it, it will grow back quickly. If you like it, it will grow back quickly, so you'll have to repeat the process every few days.
Next on the list are depilatory creams. These really aren't recommended for hair removal in the bikini area due to the harsh chemicals being used. It can be done, but you will want to stick to the upper bikini areas and less sensitive parts. The benefits of depilatories, such as Nair, are that it is quick and easy to use. You apply it to your skin, wait the number of minutes indicated on the bottle, and wipe away the cream and your hair. Nair is also fairly cheap and lasts for longer than shaving as it dissolves your hair. The downside is it has an unpleasant odor, and can cause a rash, and irritate sensitive skin in that region. Use at your own risk.
Moving up the list is waxing. Waxing is much more effective than shaving or depilatories as it pulls the hair up and out of the hair root. This means that the effect lasts much longer. You apply a special melted wax meant for bikini areas, allow it to cool, and then using a strip of adhesive or cloth, pressed into the wax, pull upward suddenly, thus removing the hair. Your hair will grow back, but rather than the three or four days in between like shaving, you may only have to wax every other week or so, depending on the speed at which your hair grows back. Waxing also seems to avoid a lot of the unpleasant ingrown hair and rash issues of the previous two methods of hair removal. Many find that after frequent, routine waxing, their pubic hair starts to grow in slightly finer or lighter, probably due to damage to the hair root. Unfortunately, the same things that make this a pleasurable region can make yanking the hair out by the roots a painful experience. Most people can tolerate it ok, but for some it's too much. For a better sexual experience, waxing is one of the most recommended methods of temporary hair removal.
Moving into permanent methods of hair removal for a better sexual experience, electrolysis uses tiny currents of electricity to kill the hair follicle at the root, thus preventing or curbing future hair growth. Electrolysis can result in the permanent removal of hair in your bikini region. Successful electrolysis will mean no more razors, depilatories, or waxing. The downside is it's expensive. From the Planned Parenthood article, "The Hair Down There", they state that an electrolysis session can cost anywhere from $25 to $100 per hour and will probably take more than one hour. It will also take more than one visit, as your hair growth is occurring at different stages for each follicle. It's not comfortable, as you'll feel each little shock, although it's tolerable for most. As with any permanent treatment, you're going to be stuck with the results, so make sure it is what you want to do before you start down this path.
Finally, laser hair removal is the primo hair removal technique for better sex. Laser hair removal, like the name implies, uses pulses of laser energy to kill the hair root. It too is permanent, and much faster than electrolysis. However, for this convenience, you'll pay a bigger price. Each session can cost $500 or more, but there are fewer sessions. Four sessions is often enough to permanently remove pubic hair. Ideal Image, in their website, comments that a session may be completed in as few as 10 minutes, and is "virtually painless". They go on to state that the most discomfort that most people experience is the feeling of a slight sunburn on the affected region. They do however offer anesthetic cream for your bikini area of this is a concern. It's your decision whether you want hair removal of your bikini area, a full Brazilian, or choose to be creative and have a shape or pattern for your bikini area. Like electrolysis though, it's permanent!
If you haven't already done so, try one of these hair removal techniques for better sex. If you have tried a temporary method, and enjoyed it, consider going permanent. You, and your partner, won't regret it!
