Top 5 Halloween Costumes for Your Family
Halloween is a Great Time for Family Fun! Here Are Great Ideas for Family Costumes
Group Family Halloween Costume: The Addams Family
They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family.
What could be better than dressing as America's first family of fright? Put a new twist on it by letting the kids be Morticia and Gomez and let the adults be Cousin Itt, Wednesday, or even Uncle Fester. Don't forget Grandma and and Lurch as possibilities.
They're wildly popular and you can find Addams family costumes everywhere. For those more budget conscious, get simple Halloween makeup and cheap long black hair for the basics. Then buy yards of cheap black material and drape Morticia and Wednesday in gowns, with cheap suits from Goodwill for the men. Sprinkle everyone with a bit of flour to fake dust and cobwebs.
Group Family Halloween Costume: Be a Bag of M&Ms
Nothing could be easier and more fun than dressing your family as a group of M&Ms, plain or peanut! Begin by picking a color and buy cheap fabric or 2 poster boards for the color of your chosen M&M. Poster board works best, fabric is quickest. Trim the corners off of the poster board so that you have two large circles. Paint the M&M design in the middle of the poster board (one side only). You can attach the poster board to your out fit with safety pins, or for a billboard effect, use strapping tape and run the tape from the top of the poster board, over your clothes, and to the top of the poster board on the other side of your body.
Be sure to get some white paint and a small craft brush to paint the M&M design on your fabric or poster board.
Group Family Halloween Costume: Be Characters from the Movie and Musical, Annie
Annie provides the perfect opportunity for your family to dress as bums - with a purpose! Adults can dress as the villainous Miss Hannigan, or the sultry Lily St Regis and Daddy Warbucks.
You can find red wigs with big curls for the person dressing up as Annie at stores everywhere, and on line, too. Make props out of empty cleanser jars, brooms, and mops for the other orphan children forced to live that "hard luck life."
The Flintstones
Mom and Dad will love this costume just as much as the kids! While Mom and Dad dress up as Fred and Wilma, the kids can dress as Pebbles and BamBam. Have more than two kids or two adults? Simple, just add Barney or Betty, and other prehistoric kids of the time, too. You can find Flintstones costumes at nearly every retailer and on line costume store, all at a reasonable price.
Group Family Halloween Costume: Be a Cheeseburger, Fries Optional
Most kids love cheeseburgers; why not dress up like one for a family Halloween costume? This is a great Halloween costume for a large (or small) family because you can "add" (or subtract) extra ingredients to your favorite food treat and "add" members to your Halloween costumes.
Here's how you do it: Decide if you want one or two people to be the bun. If there are two, simply make two costumes for the bun. For each "bun," get two large, tan colored poster boards. Trim the corners off of the poster board so that you're left with two very large circles. As added bonus, this is a one-size fits all costume, is easy to make and it's cheap, too!
The hamburger and cheese can the group costume for one or two people. Buy cheap, dark brown fabric for the hamburger, with a yard of light orange fabric for the cheese. Twist and drape the fabric to simulate the uneven texture of a hamburger, and let a few pieces of orange fabric fall from the crevices for the cheese.
Dress the lettuce in green clothes, and add green crepe paper around their body. You can attach the crepe paper with a few loose stitches with green thread. Who's the tomato? Buy a few yards of cheap red fabric, fold the fabric so that you can find the center of the fabric and cut a hole just large enough for their head. Open the fabric, put their head through the hole and let the red fabric drape down over their body.
Stand together, with the buns at the ends, and the cheeseburger and condiments in the middle! Spice it up by bringing along a boom box, playing Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise for an added bonus.
