Top 5 Hardest NES Games

Chris Ware
For modern gamers most old games are pretty easy. Atari games are a walk in the park. However some of the hardest games can be found on the NES of all places. This is why gamers use the term NES hard. Here is a list of the most difficult of all NES games.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The arcade game was way cool so when you bought this you expected something equally as cool. However what you got was a much different game then the arcade. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was pretty easy to get through the first stage but after that it got hard. As a kid I only knew a couple of people who could get past the seaweed level without cheats. Anyone that did make it past the second half of the second level was nearly dead by the time they did. It only got harder by then. The final boss was pretty hard but it was easy compared to getting to the boss but by the time you were there you were almost dead.

4. Double Dragon 3
The Double Dragon series is known to be pretty hard.Double Dragon 3 was the hardest of them all on the NES. On top of being so hard it only gave you one life. The controls were not great which makes it hard to play but I hate using bad controls for a reason a game is on the list. Besides the bad controls there are lots of other problems making this game so hard. There are lots of places where you can easily get hit and fall off a screen and die and that will be your only life so game over. Of course Double Dragon 3 also follows your standard Double Dragon difficulty rules too.

3. Ninja Gaiden
The entire Ninja Gaiden is known for being ruthlessly hard it makes Double Dragon look easy. This is the game that started that tradition. Even to this day using the game genie or an emulator to cheat this game is beatable only after long hours and infinite lives.

2. Silver Surfer
Silver Surfer was a game that you cant even try to play without cheats. The worst part is the cheats are not very good for this. Your own chance to beat the game is to cheat and use an emulator and lots of time to pause and start over. The problem with Silver Surfer is that the board is so big. The board literally is half the length of the screen. You have no time to prepare for what is coming next since you cant see it. There is also tons of stuff coming at you right from the get go. This would be a tough game to begin with but handicapping it with the huge board makes it impossible.

1. Battletoads
Was there ever any question which game would make this list? On its own Battletoadss was nearly impossible without cheats. But with a friend the game becomes harder as you can accidentally hit your friend. Not only can you accidentally hit you friend but the hover bike level is nearly impossible with two people. Even if you cheat this game is hard and will take so long you will give up. I do not think it is possible to play this game with two players and win with no cheats or emulators.

There is is you might know of a harder game but you can not deny these are some tough NES games.
