5. Hippogryphs
The proud hippogryphs take the number five spot on the Top 5 Harry Potter Creatures list. Part-horse and part-bird, hippogryphs are an excellent option for your air travel needs, although they're no substitute for a good broom. Make sure to exercise the greatest respect and caution when approaching a hippogryph, as they are a very proud species and easily offended. Bow down low and wait for the hippogryph to return the gesture, and if they don't get out of there fast those talons are sharp! Hippogryphs played their part in the Harry Potter saga, in particular the hippogryph Buckbea...err, Witherwings.
4. Boggarts
Boggarts can best be described as the ultimate boogyman, and teach us the valuable lesson that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. These mischevious tricksters prefer small dark areas to live in, like closets, cabinets, or dressers. When you see a boggart the creature will automatically assume the shape of your greatest fear, but don't be worried. Boggarts are easily dispatched by transforming your greatest fear into a funny mental image and using the Riddikulus incantation. Boggarts take the number four spot on the Top 5 Harry Potter Creatures list.
3. Acromantula
The giant arachnids known as acromantulas take the number three spot on the list. Acromantulas seem very much like giant spiders at first glance, but they possess a far greater intelligence than average spiders, some of them are even capable of speech. However you should by no means consider this an invitation to go up and talk to an acromantula, as you are most likely to end up their next meal! Perhaps the most famous acromantula in recent times is Hagrid's pet Aragog, the acromantula that was mistaken for the monster hiding within the Chamber of Secrets. This case of mistaken identity led to Hagrid's unfortunate expulsion from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
2. House Elves
House-elves take the number two spot on the Top 5 Harry Potter Creatures list. House-elves are small creatures with big eyes and a very powerful magic all their own. The magic of House-elves is different from that of human wizards and witches, as evidenced by the fact that House-elves do not require wands or incantations to work their magic, but instead use a simple force of will. Thankfully the House-elves are a very benevolent species, and their greatest pleasure is found in serving good masters, performing tasks like cooking, cleaning, and running errands. House-elves consider being of service to be the highest good. Recent organizations like S.P.E.W. (the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) have tried to secure fair wages for the industrious House-elves, although most House-elves dislike the idea of being paid for their service. There are occassional exceptions such as the House-elf Dobby, who delights in his modest wages, occasional day off, and sock-collecting.
1. Dementors
Dementors take the number one spot on the Top 5 Harry Potter Creatures list. These sinister creatures used to guard the wizard prison Azkaban, an appointment long-protested by Albus Dumbledore, and it is now widely agreed within the wizarding community that Dementors should never have been entrusted with this important task. Dementors wear long black robes with hoods, and very few people know what they look like underneath. The only people who have seen underneath the Dementor robes are those who have been subjected to the Dementor's Kiss, a horrible process where the Dementor actually sucks out a person's soul. Dementors are foul creatures in general, feeding off of the life force of others, and sucking all the happiness out of people in their vicinity. The telltale sign that a Dementor is nearby is the sensation of overwhelming despair, and the feeling that you will never be happy again. Dementors can be repelled with the advanced Patronus Charm, and the short-term effects of a Dementor's spreading despair can be combated with copius amounts of chocolate.

Post a CommentOf course Dementors had to take the top spot! Would have liked to see Thestrals make the list though.
