Top 5 Idris Elba Films

British Actor's Become One of Most Sought-after Guys in Hollywood

Dwayne C. Nelson
British actor Idris Elba burst onto the national scene in 2002 as Russell "Stringer" Bell in the highly-acclaimed HBO drama series The Wire. Elba, 37, received rave reviews for his role as the suave, smart and ruthless leader in the Barksdale drug organization.

Since Stringer Bell's death on the show in December 2004, Idris Elba's acting career has flourished, and he's become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. Just in the next few months, he'll be starring in two major motion pictures, The Losers (April 2010) and Takers (May 2010). Next year, he'll be appearing as Heimdell, the guardian of Asgard, in the movie adaptation of Thor, the popular comic book superhero.

So without further ado, here's my list of the Top 5
latest films starring Idris Elba.

5). American Gangster (2007). It's tough to shine alongside heavyweights like Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, but Idris Elba holds his own in this one. Elba's character, Tango, is killed by Washington in actually one of the best scenes in the film.

4). The Gospel (2005). This was an excellent film for Idris Elba to shed his Stringer Bell persona. The rising actor plays the egotistical Rev. Charles Frank whose vision for his church creates a rift between him and the dying bishop's son (Boris Kodjoe).

3). This Christmas (2007). Like in The Gospel, Elba's surrounded by a stellar cast, including Mekhi Phifer, Regina King and Loretta Devine. In this family film, however, he resorts back to his street-smart ways as the cool, conniving Quentin Whitfield.

2). Obsessed (2009). For years, women have fantasized about him. In '07, People magazine named Idris Elba one of the 100 Most Beautiful People in the World. In Obsessed, he's company vice president Derek Charles, who's stalked by a crazy co-worker (Ali Larter).

1). Daddy's Little Girls (2007). In this touching film, Idris Elba portrays Monty, a father who fights desperately to regain custody of his three daughters. Elba shows a softer side here, falling in love with his attorney (Gabrielle Union) who backs his battle.
