Barefoot Wine- Cabernet Sauvignon by Barefoot Cellars
$7.99 for 750ml (on sale, reg. price $12.99)
Barefoot Cellars, located in Modesto, CA, produces this extraordinary wine. Not only is Barefoot wine inexpensive but the quality of the wine is superb. Barefoot wine cabernet sauvignon pairs well with beef, lamb, pork and also sharp cheeses. This inexpensive red wine has notes of currants, raspberries and blackberries with a hint of vanilla. The bottle is what attracted me most to this wine. The label is a simple white label with the picture of a bare foot almost like a child's first foot impression. Barefoot Wine has a variety of other wines including reds, whites and champagnes to choose from.
Casillero del Diablo by Concha y Toro
$11 for 750ml (reg. price)
Casillero del Diablo is produced and bottled in the Maipo Valley of Chile by Concha y Toro. The name translated means Castle of the Devil. This could be because of the color of the wine, crimson or blood red. Casillero del Diablo is a blended wine with 90% of it being cabernet sauvignon and 10% of it being carménère. This wine has a fruity flavor of dark cherries, black currants and dark plums but what makes it unique is the hint of toasted oak flavoring with a touch of vanilla. This inexpensive red wine pairs well with roast beef, chili and sharp cheeses. Check out Concha y Toro's website to find an inexpensive red wine right for you.
Ménage à Trois by Folie à Deux
$12 for 750ml (reg. price)
Ménage à Trois is another blended red wine. Literally translated the name means "household of three". This wine blends cabernet sauvignon, merlot and a hint of zinfandel to add character. The name originally drew my attention to the wine and the inexpensive price sealed the deal. A cute label with dancing fools added to my purchasing decision. Ménage à Trois has a fruity, jam-like taste that is filled with raspberry and blackberry but the blended grapes of a zinfandel and merlot only add to the ripe rich flavor. This wine pairs well with desserts and fruit dishes as well as mild cheeses. Purchase a bottle to try at Folie à Deux.
The next two wines on the list both come from a vineyard local to the Pocono Mountain area of Pennsylvania.
Proprietor's Blend by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards
$13.49 for 750ml (reg. price)
Proprietor's blend is a genuine mix of three French hybrid grapes. Chambourcin, DeChaunac and Foch are blended to create a delicious inexpensive red wine that pairs beautifully with steak or a pasta dishes. The taste is dark and dry with a light oak after note.
Kittatinny Red by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards
$9.49 for 750ml (reg. price)
This wine is another blended wine that mixes the French hybrids with concord grapes also. The Concord grape added to the hybrids makes the red wine not as dry as the Proprietor's blend by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyard. This is an excellent inexpensive red wine that has a fruity taste and pairs well with fruits and cheeses. Visit Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards to see when the next wine tasting tour is happening or to check out what other special events are happening.

Post a CommentI love wine, too! Red or white, doesn't matter to me. Have you tried Glen Ellen or Redwood Creek?
Casillero del Daiblo is called that (according to the winery) because the proprietor kept his best wines in a cellar and wanted to make sure none of the employees took it, so he started a rumor that the devil lives in the cellar. Their Cab Sauv is really smooth and highly drinkable, though not a huge wine. For the price, it's one of my faves.
Thanks for sharing! :)
Inexpensive and good. Right up my alley! :-D
I've heard wonderful things about barefoot. If you can find it try Arena Loca. It's a Spanish red wine that is tempranillo based. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get a hold of a bottle. Here in Orlando there is a wine bar that sells a bottle for $10 and it's such a steal for the great flavor! Check it out for your next wine article!
Great list! I've tried Barefoot in the White Ziff and love it!
I'm a white wine girl myself but I have friends who like red so thanks for this information. I'll be using it for sure.
Very good! I'll share with my husband who loves red wine!
It's been so long since I had a glass of wine. I love the sweeter reds. I'll have to keep these in mind when I decide to be an adult again:)
Excellent! I'd like to add Black Opal Shiraz. It's usually between $5.99 and $9.99 and it's my favorite.
