I love wine, especially red wine. I really love a good inexpensive red wine. Often my choices of red wine are based on the name of the wine (unique wins), if the wine has been recommended and if I have tried a wine from the same winery and enjoyed it. A description on the label will often peak my interest on an inexpensive red wine. That too can play a factor in whether I will purchase it. Slowly, I am building up a wine rack in my home and these are the five inexpensive red wines can be found on it.

Barefoot Wine- Cabernet Sauvignon by Barefoot Cellars

Barefoot Cellars, located in Modesto, CA, produces this extraordinary wine. Not only is Barefoot wine inexpensive but the quality of the wine is superb. Barefoot wine cabernet sauvignon pairs well with beef, lamb, pork and also sharp cheeses. This inexpensive red wine has notes of currants, raspberries and blackberries with a hint of vanilla. The bottle is what attracted me most to this wine. The label is a simple white label with the picture of a bare foot almost like a child's first foot impression. Casillero del Diablo by Concha y Toro

Casillero del Diablo is produced and bottled in the Maipo Valley of Chile by Concha y Toro. The name translated means Castle of the Devil. This could be because of the color of the wine, crimson or blood red. Casillero del Diablo is a blended wine with 90% of it being cabernet sauvignon and 10% of it being carménère. This wine has a fruity flavor of dark cherries, black currants and dark plums but what makes it unique is the hint of toasted oak flavoring with a touch of vanilla. Ménage à Trois by Folie à Deux

Ménage à Trois is another blended red wine. Literally translated the name means "household of three". This wine blends cabernet sauvignon, merlot and a hint of zinfandel to add character. The name originally drew my attention to the wine and the inexpensive price sealed the deal. A cute label with dancing fools added to my purchasing decision. Ménage à Trois has a fruity, jam-like taste that is filled with raspberry and blackberry but the blended grapes of a zinfandel and merlot only add to the ripe rich flavor. This wine pairs well with desserts and fruit dishes as well as mild cheeses. Purchase a bottle to try at Folie à Deux.

Proprietor's Blend by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards

Proprietor's blend is a genuine mix of three French hybrid grapes. Chambourcin, DeChaunac and Foch are blended to create a delicious inexpensive red wine that pairs beautifully with steak or a pasta dishes. The taste is dark and dry with a light oak after note.

Kittatinny Red by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyards

This wine is another blended wine that mixes the French hybrids with concord grapes also. The Concord grape added to the hybrids makes the red wine not as dry as the Proprietor's blend by Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Vineyard.
