My 5 Favorite Inspirational Sports Movies

Stacy Hensley
There have been a lot of great sports movies over the years. The great ones stay with you for years to come. These stories start off with several struggles and obstacles in the way. By the end of the movie, the struggles have been overcome, and the hope turns into dreams that finally come true. Below is a list of my top 5 sports movies.

#1 Top Sports Movie-Remember the Titans

Remember the Titans is based on the true story of a newly integrated high school football team. Showing us the good and bad that the coaches and players went through during their first year.

This a great sports movie, but I also recommend this movie for those who don't like sports. It really is a great movie about people coming together despite the racial boundaries that were in place back then.

#2 Top Sports Movie-Hoosiers
Hoosiers is based on the true story of a basketball team in a small town in Indiana. With the help of a coach with a checkered past, and the town drunk, this team becomes unlikely contenders for the Indiana State Championship.

#3 Top Sports Movie-Brian's Song
Another movie based on a true story. This story chronicles the unlikely friendship between professional football players Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo. And how the friendship is affected by the news that Piccolo is dying from cancer.

The original movie was released in 1971. A remake was released in 2001.

#4 Top Sports Movie-Rudy
Rudy has always wanted to play football for Notre Dame, but was always told he was too small. Despite this and other hurdles he works hard to achieve his dream. This is a great inspirational movie about never giving up.

#5 Top Sports Movie-Gridiron Gang
Gridiron Gang is based on the true story of juvenile detention center counselor, Sean Porter. Porter decides to try and help the juveniles by forming a football team. Doing this helps teach the young criminals and gang members about discipline and self esteem. It also gives them a better understanding about true friendship and how to deal with their problems in better ways.

Each of these movies has an amazing inspirational story. If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend you head out to the nearest rental store.
