Acer Aspire One Laptop
Kids nowadays are on the go more than ever. They have school, sports, clubs, work, hobbies, friends, and between all that they have homework to get done. So for the kid on the go that needs to be able to carry and connect from anywhere I recommend the Acer Aspire One (which I am using right now). It's ultra portable and can fit right into a regular size purse. It's powerful enough to do anything I want to do and has built in Wi-Fi connectivity. We know kids don't always take care of things like they should which makes the price of under $300 a little less stressful. This would easily be the first laptop to check out for high school students.
HpMini Laptop
This one is pretty much the same thing as the Aspire One but with a mainstream name. If you are already cozy with HP and don't want to try the lesser known Acer then the HpMini is probably the way you want to go. You will get a little less for the same great price with the HP than you would with the Acer but it's still one heck of a bargain for a high school student to have as a laptop.
Dell Inspiron 9 Netbook Laptop
One more ultra small laptop option for high school students is the Dell Inspiron 9 Netbook. If you don't want to try Acer and for some reason you don't like Hp but are a fan of Dell then this one is for you. Of the three tiny laptops this one definitely offers the least value, but if you are more about the name than the substance this is still a top notch pick as a laptop for high school students.HP 15.6" G60-235WM LaptopThis laptop offers great value, more power, 15.6" screen, and a built in DVD burner for under $600. This computer is a great value from a well established company. With 4gb of RAM and a dual core processor all in a machine labeled HP I'd have to say this is as good as it gets. I really can't see any reason to get something any more powerful than this for a high school student. They do have laptops with more power for much higher prices but you must ask yourself does your high school student really need a laptop powerful enough to rearrange satellites or handle the city's electrical grid?
Acer Aspire Laptop
Not to be confused with the previously noted Acer Aspire One, this has a full 15 inch screen with DVD burner and all the power you need to do anything you want for a price that is very reasonable for such a machine. Available for under $500 this is the best value for someone who can't handle an 8.9" screen offered on the mini laptops. The minis also are too small to offer internal cd drives, so the 15' Aspire will give your high school student more options for a good laptop price.
