Matt Damon continues to prove his merits by taking on a wide range of roles across many major films. Starring in everything from dramas to war epics, from action thrillers to rowdy comedies and everything in between, Damon can carry a movie and project himself in many different ways. Here are the top 5 Matt Damon films of all-time.

The Top 5 Matt Damon Movies of All-Time

5. Good Will Hunting - In the movie that launched Damon and buddy Ben Affleck to fame and fortune, Damon plays Will Hunting, genius mathematician holding down a janitorial job and spending his time getting drunk with his pals. After getting into trouble with the law, Will is offered a way out if he sees a psychologist and pursues his talents under the supervision of an MIT professor. Eventually Will is forced to choose between his pals, his love life and his off the charts talent.

4. The Talented Mr. Ripley - This oft-overlooked film focuses on Tom Ripley, played by Damon, a character with an unusual penchant for impersonation and covering his tracks. Ripley embarks on a mission to bring Dickie Greenleaf, played by Jude Law, back to the U.S. at the request of his wealthy father. Instead, Ripley becomes obsessed with Greenleaf and the life he lives in Italy with girlfriend Marge, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. But is he a harmless castoff looking for friends and affection, or something a bit more sinister? A great cast also featured Philip Seymour Hoffman and Cate Blanchett.

3. The Bourne Trilogy - All three of the Jason Bourne movies are fast paced action thrillers, and they collectively land a spot on the list of Damon's best work. The trilogy follows Bourne, a brain washed uber-secret operative and assassin as he begins to unravel his murky past and fights to survive against a government desperate to keep him and his missions secret. The movies were an evolution for the action genre, keeping great special effects but placing a premium on realistic action and intense hand-to-hand combat.

2. Rounders - Before poker launched into the mainstream, this movie starring Damon and Edward Norton followed the paths of Mike McDermott and his buddy Worm and their differing approaches to life, and of course, cards. Worm, played by Norton, has just been released from jail and is immediately seeking to return to action, already being in debt to a handful of bookies and loan sharks. McDermott, played by Damon, has turned his life in a different direction after he lost his life savings on one hand. McDermott inevitably gets lured back into the poker scene and has to try to bail out his buddy from life threatening trouble.

1. Saving Private Ryan - Continuing in his quest to be the title character in as many movies as possible, Damon plays Private James Ryan, the single surviving brother of four who were sent to battle in World War II. A small band of troops led by Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, goes on a mission to find Ryan and send him home. The film was famous for its realistic and harrowing depiction of war, including the D-Day invasion. In addition to Damon and Hanks, the movie featured a great cast with the likes of Edward Burns, Giovanni Ribisi, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper and others. The epic was nominated for a slew of awards and took home Best Director for Steven Spielberg.
