Top 5 Milwaukee Brewers Keepers: Fantasy Baseball Draft 2009

Aaron Smith
The Milwaukee Brewers have really turned their team around over the last few years. The team had long been a doormat, but last year they made the playoffs as the Wild Card in the National League. Continued help from their young stars should make this team very viable for many years to come. Here are the top five keepers from the Milwaukee Brewers

1. Ryan Braun- How could it be anyone else? Braun is in some people's top three or four keepers in all of baseball because of his outstanding hitting ability. His average slumped slightly to .285 last season but the power was still tremendous. Expect Braun to be a consistent .290 hitter and have the capability to blast 40 or more bombs a season.

2009 Projected Stats- .292 average 38 home runs 112 runs batted in 15 stolen bases

2. Yovani Gallardo- Gallardo has shown flashes of brilliance but he hasn't had a full season yet to dazzle the major leagues because of injury issues. He made 4 starts last season and had an ERA of just 1.88. Expect big things from this 23 year old starter.

2009 Projected Stats- 153 IP's 13 wins 3.54 ERA 139 Strikeouts

3. Prince Fielder- People forget that Prince is just 24 years old and that he has plenty of room to improve on his already very impressive career. Many owners were bummed by his 34 home runs after his 50 home run campaign in 2007, but I'd expect a bit of a bounce back in the future. Don't let him get too far down in your draft.

2009 Projected Stats- .282 average 39 home runs 111 runs batted in

4. Manny Parra- Parra pitched quite well most of the season last year in his first full year in the big leagues. Parra is a lefty who has a wide array of pitches and is showing constant improvement. Look for Parra to surprise people in the coming years.

2009 Projected Stats- 171 IP's 11 wins 3.99 ERA 157 Strikeouts

5. Rickie Weeks- Rickie Weeks has been a huge disappointment to many fantasy owners over the years, but he wasn't the 2nd pick in the draft for no reason. It seems to me that this youngster still has the chance to breakout and be a very good major league player.

2009 Projected Stats- 501 AB's .261 average 19 home runs 51 runs batted in 24 stolen bases
