Top 5 Moments in the Career of Texas Football Coach Mack Brown

#5. Being Offered the Texas Head Coaching Job
Brown got the opportunity of a lifetime when Texas offered him the head coaching job. Brown's job at North Carolina was successful, but North Carolina and Texas are in two separate classes when it comes to college football. Brown would not be regarded as an elite coach until leading an elite team to a BCS Bowl game, which he would have the chance to do at Texas.

#4. Winning the 2006 Paul "Bear" Bryan Award for "Coach of the Year"
There is nothing like winning a National Championship as a head coach, but being recognized as the best coach in all of college football has to be almost as rewarding. After coaching 10 years in North Carolina, Brown couldn't have imagined that he would ever win a National Championship or earn a Coach of the year award, but he has accomplished both. Winning the 2006 Coach of the Year award ranks 4th in the accomplishments of Mack Brown as a head football coach.

#3. 2009 Fiesta Bowl Victory
Although Mack Brown probably felt that his Texas Longhorns deserved a shot at the 2008 BCS National Championship, the victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes (24-21) in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl was one of the best moments of Brown's coaching career. Brown capped off an incredible 12-1 season with a BCS Bowl victory over coaching great Jim Tressel and Ohio State.

#2. 2005 Rose Bowl Victory
What a game, and what a victory for Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns. The 10-1 Longhorns were matched up against the 9-2 Michigan Wolverines. Vince Young put in one of the best performances of his career, and Mack Brown orchestrated a great drive as the Longhorns came back from a 10 point 4th quarter deficit that ended with a game winning field goal with no time left. This victory proved that Mack Brown was capable of winning a "big game".

#1. 2006 Rose Bowl Victory & BCS National Championship
There is no question about what moment of Mack Brown's career was the best and most memorable. The surprising victory over the favored USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl for the BCS National Championship was one of the best college football moments in the history of the game, and the best moment for Texas coach Mack Brown. Vince Young and the Longhorns put together an amazing performance over the USC Trojans and Heisman Quarterback Matt Leinart. Mack Brown deserved this championship just as much as Vick Young. It was Brown's play-calling that got the job done against USC, and won him his first and only BCS National Championship.
