Top 5 Movies to Make You Laugh Over and Over Again

Cheryl Williams
Who doesn't love to laugh? In the comedic genre of movies, there are so many to choose from. What makes a movie stand out to me is its longevity factor. If it's a movie that I will watch over and over again and laugh equally hard each time I see it, then it's a keeper in my book.

Here are my top 5 comedic movies and why I hold them in such high regard.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989). This movie, starring Chevy Chase is all about a man who has the dream of providing a "good old fashioned family Christmas" for his family. This movie is so great because almost everything you can imagine goes wrong. From the madcap, slightly disgusting Uncle Eddie who unexpectedly shows up with family in an old RV to the senile old aunt who boxes up her cat as a Christmas gift...the laughs are ongoing. This is one of my family's favorite movies and I laugh just as hard everytime I watch it.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987). This movie, starring Steve Martin and John Candy is also another favorite. In this movie a man (Steve Martin) is trying to get back home for Thanksgiving, and everything seems to be blocking that from happening. Along the way he meets up with a shower ring salesmand, (John Candy)..who is a bit overbearing as well as obnoxious. Circumstances dictate that they must help one another out along the way and the results are hilarious.

Meet the Parents (2000). This movie, starring Ben Stillar, is another one that keeps you laughing from the beginning to end. When a young woman brings her finance home to meet her parents, he soon finds out that there is nothing more intimidating than having an ex-CIA operative for a future father in law. In his efforts to impress his future in-laws, he mostly makes a bumbling fool out of himself. The results are one laugh after another.

The Birdcage (1996). I love this movie. Starring Robin Williams as a gay cabaret nightclub owner and Nathan Lane as his drag queen companion, this movie is filled with laughs that never stop. In the movie, William's son is engaged to a right wing moralistic Senator's daughter. When his fiancé wants the two families to meet, the gay couple try and put on a straight conservative façade. The results are hilarious.

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
This movie stars Robin Williams as a man who is heartbroken over a divorce that has left his wife (Sally Fields) with custody of their children. In order to spend more time with the children he adores, he disguises himself as an English nanny/housekeeper. When he gets the job, the results are both heartwarming and funny.

If you are looking for a laughs galore, any of these movies will provide what you are looking for...over and over again.
