Top 5 Movies to Watch While Traveling

Put These Movies in Your Car or Portable Dvd Player

Tim Searles
Are you looking for something to entertain the children on that long road trip? Do you have a plane ride from coast to coast, or perhaps an international flight, and want to find something to keep you or your children from boredom? Either way there's nothing like a good movie to take up a block of time. The average movie is about an hour and 40 minutes long. There are some that can last well over two hours depending on genre... there are some that are less than 90 minutes, usually a spoof or humor movie. So what would be good to take on the road trip, or to put in your portable dvd player while flying? Here are my top five selections:

Movie #1 - The Incredibles

Starred by Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jason Lee this movie showcases the life of a superhero family who is forced to live regular lives. In the midst of this everyday lifestyle arises an opportunity to save the world, so back into superhero-dom they go. Although this is a children's movie, it's actually a great movie for adults too. You'll love this modern day superhero movie that tries to tie-in life as everyday people, which for them is not so easy. I recommend this one for the dvd player in the backseat of your car. This movie is directed by Brad Bird.

Movie #2 - The Bourne Ultimatum

Starring Matt Damon and Julia Stiles, this movie is the third in the trilogy of Bourne movies. We last left Jason Bourne stalking one of his followers as she gave him a clue as to who he really was. In this episode he's going all over the world to find out who he really is in an effort to find out who he can really trust and who he must fight. Be sure to have some earphones for this one as there are some crazy chase scenes, action scenes, and fight scenes. I'd recommend this one for the portable dvd player on the plane ride. This movie is directed by Paul Greengrass.

Movie #3 - Rush Hour

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker star in what would become a trilogy of two men fighting crime in their own special way. This first movie takes place in Los Angeles and you have two completely different law enforcers who are forced to work together to save the consulate's daughter and stop a major robbery going down in Los Angeles. If you're looking for a goofy distraction on the plane, put this movie in your portable dvd player. It'll buy you at least an hour of half of non-stop entertainment. If you have a long stretch of road and you need something to look at other than mountains or sand, play this movie. You'll be laughing all the way to your destination. Ths movie is directed by Brett Ratner.

Movie #4 - Ocean's Eleven

Starring George Clooney, Bernie Mac, Brad Pitt, Elliott Gould, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and more... this eleven-man crew is out not only to rob a casino, but also get revenge on the casino's owner. The ultimate prize for Ocean... the ex-wife. What I recommend about this is that you watch how all the people came together, how they all work together, and the underlying stories behind the main story. If you're curious about any of these Ocean movies, start with this first one. There's also an Ocean's Twelve and an Ocean's Thirteen... but you have to start with this first one to get an understanding of how the other two. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, you'll be wondering how they're going to get away with it as you're watching. Great for in-flight movie or backseat car-ride dvd playing.

Movie #5 - The Game

Starring Michael Douglas, Sean Penn, and directed by David Fincher, The Game is no game. This was reality TV before reality TV became popular. In this movie, Nicholas Van Orton (Douglas) gets a birthday present from his brother (Penn) that literally has him unraveled. Going longer than two hours, this thriller will have you guessing at every turn. This is unlike any movie that I've ever seen and I think you'll enjoy it in your portable dvd player.
