Top 5 Mugen Games Worth Your Time

C.B. Jones
The Mugen game engine allows fighting game fans to compile there own content to create and distribute full fledged games. there are more than a few which reek of cheapness, and lack of effort. these are the ones worth your time.

AOF Mugen.
The original installment in SNK's Art of Fighting series has been fine tuned in the form of a Mugen remake. Everything that make Art of Fighting great in Arcades is(doe the most part) intact. Huge characters, challenging opponent AI, and the greatness of Mr. Big are all here.

Dragon Ball Z: Mugen Dream.
DBZ Dream is the best Dragon Ball related Mugen game thus far. I base this on gameplay alone. It doesn't have a roster of 50 + fighters, everything in this particular Mugen title is based on balance. There are enough flashy attacks and special effects to enchant those who prefer style over substance.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Eternity of Heroes.
Whenever Capcom releases a vs. title, 2D fighting game fans rejoice. This fan game is based on the fast paced and frantic gameplay form the Marvel Vs. games. if you have a short attention span, check it out. the special effects are pretty cool, and the 100 + hit combos are always a sight to see.

Old School Warrios Clash.
Are you a fan of retro video games like Kung Fu, Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Pac-Man? If so, you absolutely have to play this game. Even if you aren't familiar with any of these games or characters, check it out anyway.

Street Fighter II NES.
Capcom's many rehashes and re-releases of Street Fighter II never really excited me. SFII NES is a reimagining of that game's classic formula, with some added features from later games in the Street Fighter series. It's like Street fighter II, only less stiff and more fun overall.

It should be noted that this list only includes games made with care, not those compiled by taking material from others in the Mugen community. Those 500 + character games you'll only find on various peer to peer networks aren't even on my radar. There's nothing special about them really. A lot of the characters are "rare", and are often plagued with glitches.

There were a few more Mugen games I wanted to include on this list. Ones that didn't make the cut are either unfinished beta's, or unreleased/canceled/abandoned projects. As it stands, these are some of the best Mugen games released.
