Top 5 Natural Remedies for Anemia

Sean Hein
If you are experiencing weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, headache and a fast heartbeat, you are probably suffering from a condition of the body called "Anemia". Many people are affected by this condition all over the world.

Anemia is caused when the level of hemoglobin in a person's blood is below the normal recommended level. Hemoglobin is the combination of iron and protein, which is found in red blood cells. It performs the vital function of carrying oxygen to the brain and other tissues and organs of the body. When your body produces fewer red blood cells than normal, you suffer from anemia, as the body does not get its dose of oxygen.

Let us look at some remedies for Anemia as follows: 1.An Iron rich diet: It is very important to take care that you consume a well balanced diet rich in iron. Some good sources of iron are garden cress seeds, black sesame seeds, cauliflower greens, cow peas, beaten rice flakes, parsley, dill leaves and poppy seeds to name a few.

You can incorporate all or at least some of the above in your regular diet and you will see the difference. Fruits like apples, apricot, asparagus, bananas, kelp, plums, raisins and figs are rich in iron. You should also eat foods rich in Vitamin C like lemon to help the absorption of iron. 2.Iron supplements: You can support your diet with iron supplements in the form of iron citrate to restore iron deficiency.

Doctors suggest that if Vitamin C supplements are taken along with iron, it increases absorption and can bring your hemoglobin level back to normal faster. 3.Spirulina : This is a whole food rich in nutrients and enhances the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. 4.Folic acid and Vitamin B12: Both of them aid in production of red blood cells.

It can be taken as a daily supplement after consulting your family physician. Pregnant women need to especially take care that their diet is rich in folic acid. This will ensure that the baby gets all the required nutrition it needs. 5.Cooking in iron pots: When you cook your food in iron pots or using iron spoons, the food absorbs the iron to a certain extent and is consumed easily in a natural way.

Remember to transfer the food cooked in the pot to another one after you finish cooking the recipe. Avoid processed food and beer, coffee, candy bars, dairy and soft drinks since the preservatives used in these foods may come in the way of iron absorption.

Eat everything that is natural and organic. It will be useful if you exercise regularly. Pregnant women are checked for a blood count regularly, but many women forget to do this routine after their baby is born.

Anemic people lose their efficiency and become tired easily. To avoid all this, I would also suggest that you check your hemoglobin levels twice a year. This will prevent you from being anemic and you will not need to suffer much. This year celebrate your birthday by doing a blood count.........it will feel different than usual!
