Top 5 NFL Players Who Should Be in the Hall of Fame

But Are Not

Randy Inman
These are the top 5 players who should be in the NFL Hall of Fame but who are not. Sure there are hundreds of deserving players who should be in Canton. In narrowing my list down to 5 NFL players who should be in the Hall of Fame, I of course left many out.

If you think I listed somebody who should not have been. Or if you think you have a guy more worthy of nomination into the NFL Hall of Fame, then leave a comment below. I will answer any comments about NFL players who should be in the Hall of Fame but are not.

Jerry Kramer

Jerry Kramer was a mainstay on the Green Bay Packers led by Vince Lombardi. According to Profootballreference.com Jerry Kramer was a Hall of Fame finalist 9 times then a senior candidate once. Jerry Kramer was one of the best players under the legend Vince Lombardi. The Packer guard was instrumental in the famed "Packer Sweep" and threw the block that won the "Ice Bowl" between the Packers and Cowboys. He even wrote the book "Instant Replay" which I have on the best pro football books list. Jerry Kramer deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Ray Guy

Yes Ray Guy was only a punter but he was probably the best to ever play the position. This Oakland Raider was an asset with his booming punts that put the other team in bad field position constantly. Ray Guy only had 3 blocked punts out of over 1,000 in his NFL career. Guy was athletic enough that he was the emergency quarterback for many seasons with the Raiders. Ray Guy deserves to be the first pure punter in the Hall of Fame.

Roger Craig

Roger Craig was a superb and highly versatile running back for the San Francisco 49ers before ending his career in Oakland and then Minnesota. Craig played both halfback and fullback and was awesome at catching passes. In 1985 Roger Craig ran for 1,050 yards and also caught 92 passes for 1,016 yards. Roger Craig was a key part of the 49er dynasty.

Chris Carter

All he did was catch touchdowns. I must preface this with I can't stand him and never could. I get the feeling that Carter's early drug problem and later attitude problem is keeping him out of the NFL Hall of Fame.

That being said I do think Chris Carter deserves to be in Canton. According to NFL.com Carter's stats are as follows. 1,101 catches for 13,889 yards and 130 touchdown receptions. Those are NFL Hall of Fame numbers for a wide receiver.

Steve Tasker

Steve Tasker was probably the best special teams player to ever strap on an NFL helmet. Special teams are ignored by the NFL Hall of Fame voters or else Tasker and Ray Guy would already be in. If you are among the elite at what you do, you deserve to be in the NFL Hall of Fame, period. Steve Tasker belongs on any top 5 list of players who should be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Ray Guy is long overdue on making it in. Carter will get in, and I agree about Tasker, too. Nice choices!
