Top 5 Outdoor Activities in Clarksville, TN. If you are a resident of Clarksville, you already know there are many outdoor recreation activities for the family in the area. Here are the top five activities in my opinion.

1. Visit Beachaven Vineyards and Winery. It is located on Dunlop Road, just off of exit 4. It was opened in 1986 by Judge William O. Beach and his son-in-law Edward Cook. Beachaven has won 450 awards for wine making. Their wine is produced from the grape vines on the property and high quality grapes bought on the market. The best event is Jazz on the lawn. It is a family atmosphere where you can picnic on the lawn and listen to live jazz music. There is also wine tasting available in you are 21 years of age. Jazz on the Lawn is held from May to October. For more information about Beachaven, visit their website at http://www.beachavenwinery.com. Their phone number is 931-645-8867.

2. Walk the Historic Downtown Tour. It is a 2.2 mile self guided walking tour of the historic sites of Downtown Clarksville. Our family tries to schedule this in the summer just before sunset. The city is transformed into a beautiful light display in the evening. During Christmas time, the streets and buildings are decorated for the season with thousands of lights. The downtown buildings date back to the 1870s. The starting point of the tour is the Customs house Museum, it is located at 200 South Second Street. You pick up brochures there to guide your family along the tour. For more information about the tour you can call 931-648-5780.

3. Dunbar Cave State park is located on the east side of Clarksville. This is a prime attraction for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, photography, and even exploring the cave. The cave is open for hikes every Saturday and Sunday in April and May at 1:00 and 3:00. From June to August the cave hikes are at 1:00 to 3:00 Wednesday through Sunday. Make sure to bring a flashlight. The park also offers three hiking trails that are easy to moderate. They range from .67 to 1.9 miles in length. There is a 15 acre lake full of bass, catfish, and bluegill. You can picnic by the lake and feed the ducks with the family. There is a visitor center that has a room of animal skins and other educational displays throughout. The park is a great place to spend the day with the family. The park is open daily.

4. The Cumberland Riverwalk is another attraction located downtown. It is a paved walkway about a half mile long that follows the Cumberland River. It has a boat ramp, park, boat dock, and an exhibit center. The riverwalk is decorated for the seasons. There are bands in the summer and a Christmas wonderland in December. The parks are great for the kids and provide shaded areas for the parents to enjoy. The exhibit center has a huge display showing the history of the Cumberland River. The exhibit is open daily and is free to enter.

5. Finally, the Clarksville Speedway is a great family event. It is located on Needmore Road in Clarksville. It has a dirt oval track and a 1/8 mile dragstrip. It costs $5 per person. Midnight madness on the drapstrip starts at 10:00pm and is for anyone wanting see how fast their car, truck or even four wheeler can make the 1/8 mile strip. The oval track hosts late model, open wheel modified, mini sprints, pro street, street stock, mini modifieds and pure minis racing. I suggest you bring ear plugs for the little ones in the family. More information about these events can be found at http://www.clarksvillespeedway.com.

I hope you enjoy my suggestions of outdoor activities in the Clarksville area. I know there are plenty of other activities to do around here but these are some of my family's favorite ones.
