Top 5 Overall Arizona Diamondbacks - 2009 Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide

Timothy Christopher
The Arizona Diamondbacks may not draw as much attention as big market ballclubs like the New York Yankees or division rival Los Angeles Dodgers, but the D-backs feature some very high end fantasy prospects for the 2009 baseball season. Here's a look at the top 5 fantasy baseball players on the Arizona Diamonbacks.

1. Brandon Webb

2. Dan Haren

3.Connor Jackson

4. Stephen Drew

5. Max Scherzer

#1 Overall Arizona Diamondback: Brandon Webb, Starting Pitcher

This is a no-brainer as Webb has been arguably the best pitcher in Major League Baseball over the past three years. He won the Cy Young Award in 2006 and finished runner-up the previous two years. Webb should easily be good for about 20 wins, over 200 innings pitched, and over 170 strikeouts. He should be one of the first pitchers selected in your draft.

#2 Overall Arizona Diamondback: Dan Haren, Starting Pitcher

Just behind Webb in the rotation is Dan Haren. Haren was an all-star last season, and would be an ace on most staffs. Like Webb, expect Haren to pitch over 200 innings, and be one of the top strikeout pitchers in the league. He won't win as many games as Webb, but should be good for 14-18 wins.

#3 Overall Arizona Diamondback: Connor Jackson, Left Field

Connor Jackson may not provide a ton of power from the left field position, but he provides a nice mixture of hitting for average and hitting for power. He sported a .300 batting average last season and walked nearly as often as he struck out. He would provide nice balance to a fantasy outfield that is stocked with home run hitters.

#4 Overall Arizona Diamondback-Stephen Drew, Shortstop

The shortstop has become more of a power-hitting position in recent yeras, but still, a shortstop that can provide your team with 20+ HRs is a very valuable asset. Drew also emerged as a solid lead-off hitter for the Diamondbacks, which means he should be on base a lot and score a lot of runs.

#5 Overall Arizona Diamondback-Max Scherzer, Starting Pitcher

Scherzer may not be dominant this year, but he could be a very good sleeper pick in a deep league or a keeper league. Scherzer is still young and the Diamondbacks will likely keep him as their fifth starter to keep his innings down, but he has shown the ability to be absolutely dominating when he is pitching well, and could be a player that really surprises people this year.
