Top 5 Overall Florida Marlins - Your Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide 2009

Timothy Christopher
The Florida Marlins are a small-market known for developing great young talent. This year is no exception and they've got some potentially great fantasy baseball players on their team. Here is a look at the Top 5 overall fantasy baseball players on the 2009 Florida Marlins.

1. Hanley Ramirez

2. Dan Uggla

3. Jorge Cantu

4. Ricky Nolasco

5. Cameron Maybin

#1 Overall Florida Marlin: Hanley Ramirez, Shortstop

Ramirez is one of the finest young shortstops in the game, and is redefining the shortstop position. He can hit for average, but also hit for impressive power. He bats in the leadoff position, so his RBI are lower than you might expect, but he'll score well over 100 runs and should launch over 30 HRs which is way more than you'll get from just about any other shortstop. He won't last long in your fantasy draft.

#2 Overall Florida Marlin: Dan Uggla, Second Base

Most of America is familiar with Uggla from his All-Star game meltdown last season, but he is one of the elite power-hitting second basemen in the league. Uggla presents a high-risk/high-reward situation, in that his batting average isn't very good, and he strikes out a lot, but he should be among the leaders for home runs and RBI for second basemen.

#3 Overall Florida Marlin: Jorge Cantu, Third Base

Cantu provides the type of offensive one normally expects from a corner infielder. Even if his numbers dip from a career year last season, he'll still likely hit 20+ HRs and drive in 80+ RBIs making him a solid fantasy player.

#4 Overall Florida Marlin: Ricky Nolasco, Starting Pitcher

Nolasco emerged as the Marlins ace last year with a great season. Injuries in 2007 made Florida consider moving him to the bullpen, but he went over 200 innings pitched last year without any problem, and when healthy, he's been nearly unhittable, recording 186 strikeouts. He'd make the perfect second or third starter in your fantasy baseball team's rotation.

#5 Overall Florida Marlin: Cameron Maybin, Center Field

This is risky given that Maybin only played in eight games last season, but the potential reward here is pretty great. Maybin was the top prospect in the trade that brought Miguel Cabrera to Detroit, and Maybin has the potential to be a great five-tool player. He's still very young, and should be strikeout prone, but if he's getting at-bats for Florida early in the season, he might become a great fantasy option, especially in a keeper league.
