#1 Overall Kansas City Royals rookies: Mitch Maier- Fantasy Baseball 2009
The positives with Mitch Maier are that he is scheduled to start the season in the majors. The problem is that he is stuck behind a solid outfield in Kansas City with Coco Crisp, Jose Guillen and David DeJesús. Maier can hit the ball though so he could win the fourth outfielder spot which would give him a decent amount of playing time. Last year in AAA Maier even hit .316 in 85 games.
Projected 2009 Stats:
Runs: 50
HR: 8
RBI: 40
SB: 5
SO: 40
AVG: 275
#2 Overall Kansas City Royals rookies: Carlos Rosa- Fantasy Baseball 2009
Carlos Rosa had a rough year in AAA with the Omaha Royals with a 4.09 ERA in 11 starts for the team. Rosa will not start in the majors to begin with though as he is scheduled to work out of the bullpen.
Projected 2009 Stats:
Wins: 2
Losses: 2
Strikeouts: 50
Saves: 0
ERA: 3.80
WHIP: 1.25
#3 Overall Kansas City Royals rookies: Kila Kaaihue- Fantasy Baseball 2009
Kila Kaaihue is a promising rookie for the Kansas City Royals. He had a great year in the minors last year. He could be used to backup Mike Jacobs, but will not be able to start next year unless one of the starters has a terrible slump or is injured.
Projected 2009 Stats:
Runs: 30
HR: 8
RBI: 35
SB: 1
SO: 25
AVG: 270
#4 Overall Kansas City Royals rookies: Devon Lowery- Fantasy Baseball 2009
Lowery struggled in his short time in the majors last year with an ERA of 10.38 through 4.1 innings. But, Lowery was solid in the minors for 2008. He recorded a 2.12 ERA through 59.1 innings. Lowery is projected to start the majors in the bullpen for relief in the 7th and 8th innings. Lowery's value will only be in a decent ERA and WHIP.
Projected 2009 Stats:
Wins: 2
Losses: 2
Strikeouts: 45
Saves: 0
ERA: 4.05
WHIP: 1.31
#5 Overall Kansas City Royals rookies: Angel Sanchez- Fantasy Baseball 2009
Sanchez had a rough year last year in AAA with Omaha batting only .221 in 131 at bats. Sanchez won't be seen in the majors until at least halfway through the year. But, you may see him get some swings down the stretch if he bounces back in AAA this year.
Projected 2009 Stats:
Runs: 15
HR: 1
RBI: 15
SB: 1
SO: 20
AVG: 260
