Petunia Fancy Dress
The Petunia Fancy Dress is both whimsical and bold. The only consistency in this new 2010 petunia's markings are the colors: a purple-pink and buttery white. These hues grace the annual in a variety of designs, the predominant hue depends on what flower you are looking at, at the moment. Some blooms are marked in graceful portions, others appear to have been paint splattered by a child. Blooming from spring until frost, these petunias grow to 16 to 20 inches tall.
This new 2010 petunia variety should be planted in full sun. Soil should be well drained. The large, trailing flower works well in planters, boxes and baskets. The Petunia Fancy Dress is exclusively sold at Burpee. One pack of 12 plants is $22.95 and a package of 15 seeds is $5.25.
Potunia Cappuccino Petunia
The Potunia Cappuccino Petunia is the most distinctively original multi-colored new petunias for 2010. The soft white flower has purple-chocolate veins and a delicate yellow-green blush. It will truly make a unique and complimentary addition to many gardens. This petunia can grow to 18 inches in height and blooms spring to fall.
The Potunia Cappuccino Petunia should be planted in full to partial sun. Moist, well-drained soil is recommended. This flower is recommended for combination containers, flower beds and baskets. The Portunia Cappuccino Petunia is available from Red Fox.
Petunia Easy Wave Burgundy Star
The Burgundy Star is the only striped petunia in the Easy Wave® series. This, combined with it's striking star-shaped red-purple and white color combination makes it one of the top new petunias for 2010. It's color combinations have caused it to be dubbed the Creme Brulee Petunia.The blooms will reach eight to 12 inches tall and trail up to three feet.
This petunia should be planted in full sun, in moist, well-drained soil. This spreading plant is ideal for containers, window boxes and ground cover. The Easy Wave Burgundy Star can be purchased from Park Seed, at $9.95 a six-pack. A 25-seed packet is available from Harris Seeds, for $5.95.
Petunia Shock Wave Blue Denim
A new year of petunia varieties wouldn't be complete without a coveted shade of blue. As its name suggests, the colors in a bed of Shock Wave Blue Denim Petunias runs the gauntlet of light to dark denim washes. The flowers height is 8 to 10 inches and they bloom from mid-spring to early fall.
Shock Wave Blue Denim Petunias should be planted in full sun, in moist and well-drained soil. The flowers are well-suited to baskets, beds and ground cover. Park Seed carries a six-pack a plants for $9.95. Summer Hill Seeds has a 15 count seed packet for $3.25.
Supertunia Pretty Much Picasso Petunia
The Pretty Much PicassoTMPetunia is one of the most unusual new petunia hybrids for 2010. The blue-purple flowers are rimmed in a surprising lime green. The coloring is slightly reminiscent of an orchid. This trailing petunia variety will grow eight to 12 inches in height and blooms all summer long.
Plant the flower 12 to 18 inches apart, in full sun. A butterfly and hummingbird attractor, this petunia is well suited for landscaping and combination planters. Dead heading is not necessary. The Supertunia® Pretty Much Picasso Petunia can be purchased from Proven Winners, at $7.45 per 4.5 classic container. It is not available from seed.
