Top 5 Photo Sharing Services that Photographers Trust

Precious Photos Deserve the Best

Dave Bryan
There are quite a few photo sharing services to chose from. Choosing a photo sharing service can be quite a chore considering the many options available. No one photo sharing service offers every option so the consumer must determine which service is the best for them.

The following is a list of the top 5 photo sharing services. The 5 photo services made this list based on what each site offers the consumer such as security, features, how easy to use, and support.

All of the selections following offer unlimited storage space. There are too many options offered by these top 5 photo sharing services to list them all.

Flickr

Yahoo! Flickr is a very popular photo sharing service that is gaining in market share. The main complaint is that Flickr needs to provide better customer support and help.

Flickr is very easy to use, allows the user to create their own web page, and provides photo printing services. Flickr could easily become the number one photo sharing service as popularity increases.

Photobucket

Photobucket, at the moment, is considered the top photo sharing service by many. Photobucket needs to offer more features and their support is somewhat lacking.

The ability is there to create a web page, post video clips, and they have photo contests. Photo printing services and large photo viewing is offered.

Fotki

Fotki is an easy photo sharing service to use. Many users say they like to see a better sense of community like the other top photo sharing services provide.

Fotki does offer spam filtering. SmugMug is the only other service to provide this on the list. Fotki offers a web page, ad free browsing, and photo printing services. Video clip uploading is not offered.

SmugMug

SmugMug is considered tops when it comes to customer support. I believe SmugMug is underrated and may become more popular in time. SmugMug offers all the features of the other top 5 photo sharing services including photo printing services, a user web page, and large photo viewing.

dotPhoto

The last of the top 5 photo sharing services is dotPhoto. This photo sharing service is considered very easy to use and offers excellent customer service. What dotPhoto is lacking in is popularity. This top photo sharing service is full featured, offering the same services as the others.

Conclusion

Selecting a top photo sharing service can seem overwhelming considering the many available. The photographer that uses any of these top 5 photo sharing services should do fine.

Personally, I don't see the need to pay money for a photo sharing service unless unlimited space is required or there is a certain feature important to the user not provided by free services available.

Google offers free limited space where photo, videos, and files can be uploaded and shared via email approval without the recipient having to have a Google account. Obviously, Facebook and Myspace are common, free, ways to share photos.

Wow. How many Fotki lovers in one place : ) I have been registered in other photo sharing services like Photobucked, Picasa and Flickr, but like my Fotki the most. They have the most user friendly interface and FTP upload.

Don't have a clue how Photobucked can be considered as a top rated photo sharing service. They have the ugliest interface and lack in privacy features.

Anyway, I don't know any other photo sharing web site that offers so many features and real human support. Fotki rocks!

I use Fotki (http://members.fotki.com/headstar/about/) for all my photo sharing needs! Love the service, and use it for 5 years now! My friend on Fotki uses them for 10 years, and they constantly innovate, and make cool new changes.

Btw, article says "Video clip uploading is not offered." but Fotki does support video, here is an example:

    Have fun people!

Interesting. I don't take that many photos, and the ones I do I usually simply email. But if I was into heavily photography (I used to be), I would doubtless choose one of these services.
