Top 5 Places to Celebrate Halloween in the U.S.

Amy Stepp
I have listed below my top 5 picks for the best places in the United States to explore on Halloween.

1. Congress Avenue Bridge, Austin, Texas
Bats, bats and over millions of bats fly out of this bridge at night around 7-8pm for a display like you have never seen. Of course this is a free attraction, all you will need is a lawn chair and something to drink to pass the time until they take flight! I pick this place because Halloween equals dark creatures which equals bats!

2. The Salem Which Museum, Salem, Massachusetts
Home of the Salem Which trails you can explore the Salem Which Museum. Hours of operation on Halloween are 10am to 12am. The museum depicts the Salem Which trials of 1962 with dramatic history lessons by using life-size figures, lighting and narration on a staged set.

3. The Village Halloween Parade, New York City, New York
This 36 year old parade has been named one of the best events in the world to attend on October 31st. Understandably due to the fact people love to watch at least 50,000 participants dress up in amazing costumes and parade down the New York streets. To be able to enjoy this parade to the fullest line up on 6th street around 7pm (get there a little earlier to get better seats) and enjoy the festivities until 10pm!

4. Cape Fear Riverboats, Cape Fear, North Carolina
The name draw you in even if they didn't have anything fun going on for Halloween, but thankfully this town has something great going on. Each Tuesday in October Cape Fear Riverboats offer a Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise. Enjoy a Southern buffet style dinner for only $44.00 for each ticket ($26.00 for children). The cruise runs from 6:30pm - 8:30pm along the Cape Fear River. Bonus, if you solve the crime you just might win a prize!

5. Pumpkin Festival, Keene, New Hampshire
I say Georgia, you say peaches. I say Keene, New Hampshire you better say PUMPKIN FESTIVAL! This festival brings in visitors all over the world to watch hundreds of volunteers light up thousands of carved pumpkins to light up the night sky as the sun begins to set. It is something big to see! Throw in some hayride, live DJ, food vender's, costume parade, seed spitting contest and many more, no wonder why this festival is working on its 19th year running! Join the town of Keene, New Hampshire on October 17 from 10am to 9pm and judge for yourself!
