Top 5 Popular Singers with Horrible Singing Voices

They Can't Sing, but They Make Money!

Sherri Thornhill
Most of us love good music and truly appreciate a singer that can, well, sing! However, there are so many so called "singers" out there today that have really bad singing voices, that it begs the question-who is the worst of the worst?

Rather than pick on those bad singers who are simply floating around making what they call "music", let's concentrate on five of the most popular, money making artists around today. They have horrible singing voices, but they have some things that the others do not; great lip-synching abilities, music that is good enough to cover their awful voices, fans that don't care if they can't actually sing, and one more thing, money.

Britney Spears

The queen of can't sing has to be Britney Spears. As we say in the south, "Bless her heart." We thought she was a novelty when she popped onto our TV's wearing a school uniform and singing the teeny-bopper lyric. It was almost cute, and the music was catchy. We didn't know yet that she had no singing voice and that her sound was totally "produced." When she finally attempted to sing live without lip-synching, we saw her for what she was, but it was too late. She laughed all the way to the bank.

Ke$ha

Some of us like her catchy pop-rock songs, but the cold hard fact is that she has no talent when it comes to the actual singing. Ke$ha sang live for New Year's Eve 2011. Besides appearing to be extremely intoxicated, she was brave and chose not to lip-sync. She should have gone with lip-synching. Tik Tok and Your Love Is My Drug are fun songs to dance to, but don't be fooled into thinking the voice you hear is anymore than production filtering and affect. Will she drink away the millions she has made from us suckers, or get it together and keep taking our money the way Britney is trying to do?

Miley Cyrus

Oh Miley. Hannah Montana could fool little kids into thinking she can sing and making her a millionaire by buying her merchandise. However, Hannah wanted to be Miley, and despite some radio success, the simple truth is that her voice is not very good. Oh it's not Ke$ha bad, but it's still pretty bad. What could we expect; she is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, not exactly a stellar singer in his day either. They do have one thing in common though; they both used bad singing voices to get rich.

Avril Lavigne

This Canadian is a step up from Miley, but her singing voice is still bad, eh? She was on top of the charts for a couple years, and then she fell off. Now she is back with more wonderfully bad pop music for all of us to enjoy. Just sing "Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yeah" to any of her songs and you'll fit right in. I know this is not the best Canada has to offer, right?

Lil Wayne

What, you thought I wasn't going to point out a really bad male singer? It seems not as many of them make it to the big time, with the exception of those boy bands we all hate to love. So I dutifully point out just how bad Lil Wayne is at his attempts at singing. He likes to sing about "shorties" and "the club." He is well known for using the auto voice tuner to help him out. It doesn't help enough. When he sticks to simply rapping, it's not so bad, but singing is not his strong suit.

Great article? What about Bob Dylan?

I think it is the whole package people buy. My son is in a band that is quite successful, but he is often puzzled why. Many bands that don't "make it" are so much better than they are. It has to be a chemistry thing, attitude, interviews etc.

    Thanks, Sherri!

Interesting choices and I do agree with most. I personally do not mind Brittany.

Bob Dillon comes to mind. Horrible, absolutely HORRIBLE voice.

    I so agree.
