Top 5 Quentin Tarantino Movies

Jason Cooley
Quentin Tarantino's work has become its own personal genre that other's can try to copy but can never duplicate. This is much like Hunter S. Thompson and Gonzo journalism. When you sit down to watch a Quentin Tarantino movie, you can expect to see a movie that stands on provocative dialog rather than CGI.

Here I have my top Quentin Tarantino movies starting with my favorite and descending to the next best film. I personally hate knowing about a movie before I watch it so this list will be made without any spoilers. Quentin Tarantino movies are such an original treat for movie goers that there is no way I could risk ruining such a rare cinematic experience for anyone who has yet to partake in the dreamingly diverse genre of Quentin Tarantino movies.

Pulp Fiction

This number one spot on the my list was a tough one to fill. Not only are Quentin Tarantino movies always original and brilliant, but the top two (Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs) are particularly outstanding works of story telling. Reservoir Dogs did so much with so little "Hollywood" key jiggling special effects by simply using dialog to keep the audience enthralled without the use of any tantalizing visual effects. Ultimately I had to go with Pulp Fiction which does the same while using serious star power and imaginative editing. Quentin Tarantino altered the lineage of the story in a way that allowed the viewer to sort it out themselves. Quentin Tarantino bloomed as a master storyteller who could take advantage of all aspects of film to convey the story.

Reservoir Dogs

Brilliant! Great movie with no frills and no distraction, just substance. Could you imagine being thoroughly wrapped up in a movie that for the most part takes place in one single drab setting? Well that's the magic Quentin Tarantino pulled off in Reservoir Dogs. Like I said earlier, this movie was a serious contender for the number one spot but fell sort as Pulp Fiction was simply more virtuous.

Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2

This is an original story that allowed the viewer to witness true live action comic book. The Kill Bill movies did use a lot of action but managed to pull it off in an original way that gave the action sequences their own character. Quentin Tarantino's use of women as strong figures comes through without any complication, while others who have tried to use women action by stripping the womanly qualities of the heroes so they are more or less men on the inside but attractive to look at on screen, and this is why all others have failed. In contrary to all others who have sacrificed their characters' womanly qualities to have them better fit the mold of an action figure, Quentin Tarantino embraced the beautiful womanly strengths as attributes to the character.

Inglorious Basterds

When I first heard about the premise of this movie I was extremely excited and immediately thought this movie would be in the mold of the over the top, campy, throw back fun of the Grind House movies. To a degree it was, but not as much as I thought. This movie targeted one of the few universally hated villains of the world, the Nazis, as a group that we all wanted to see harmed. This played as a role reversal to a very unfair real life situation where the Jewish people were powerless and victimized without reason.

True Romance

This movie was written by Quentin Tarantino before he was recognized as a director, so of course the story line is great though it did not reach its true Quentin Tarantino potential. True Romance offers up a fun and exciting love story that couples can enjoy on their separate Mars/Venus levels. This movie is far lesser known than the others which means you probably haven't seen it, so put it on your list and thank me later.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
