5. Sleek look and space-saving design. This is one obvious reason. CRT monitors are bulky and take too much space. Imagine a 22-inch CRT sitting on top of your desk. It's huge and really heavy. LCD monitors, on the other hard, doesn't have a tube so it isn't as big as the CRT. They're basically flat plus, the designs seem to be much cooler. Black is the most common color and glossy LCDs are becoming very famous among consumers.
4. Power saving features. LCD monitors do not use too much electricity. Try to compare the wattage of LCD monitors and CRT monitors on the web. You'll most likely save on electricity if you switch over the LCD. As a matter of fact, our electric bill at home went down considerably after I bought my 19-inch LCD to replace my 17-inch CRT. That's considering I used my computer for almost the same number of hours when I was still using my CRT monitor.
3. Prices are becoming more stable. Since LCD monitors are now manufactured more than CRTs, the prices of LCD monitors are becoming stable with 19-inch LCD coming down to $100 or so. It will depend on the brand and model but the prices are much more affordable compared to the early years of the first LCDs. You now have lots of choices so to speak.
2. LCD monitors offer better features. High definition videos are in-demand nowadays and CRT monitors just don't have the ability to display them properly. LCD monitors are also feature packed and easy to set up (before it was too hard but there are now lots of guides on the internet that can help you out).
1. LCD is more capable of displaying better quality pictures and movies due to its digital signal. Let's face it; older CRT monitors are using the regular D-sub cable to connect to your video card which is an analog connection. LCDs usually use DVI or HDMI to connect to your PC. Since they are digital, they can handle more video/image data compared to analog. Just imagine, as the quality of movies and still images go higher, it will become extremely tough for an analog connection to transmit the data because of its bandwidth and limitations. LCDs are way more advanced and ready for bigger and better quality displays.
If you have a little budget though, you can still use CRT monitors. The choice will still be yours. But the life of CRT monitors may be coming to an end sooner that we thought. One thing to watch out though since LCD monitors get more and more into the mainstream computer monitor market, there will probably be less support for CRT monitors. So I would suggest that you invest on LCD monitors than buy CRT.
