Posture Causing Your Workout to Slump? When you step on that treadmill or elliptical have you paid attention to your posture lately? If you are slumped over during your workout then chances are your entire workout has slumped with you! Correct form and posture is critical in achieving great workout results and it's one of the easiest things for us to forget when it comes to working out. Next time you step foot on that treadmill, make sure that you have your back straight, chin up, belly in and chest out to get the most out of your workout routine!
Are You Drinking Enough Water? Most of us don't drink enough water so don't be too quick to answer yes to this question! Studies have also shown that if you are fully hydrated when you begin an exercise routine, and if you maintain proper hydration throughout the routine you are able to exercise up to 20% longer than if you begin the routine partially dehydrated. What this means for you is that if you aren't drinking enough water before and during your exercise routine then you are probably cutting the routine short thus causing your workout to work less!
How Are You Passing that Cardio Time? The activities that you are taking part in during your cardio could be making the sessions last longer or just seem longer. If you are reading a book while walking on the treadmill, chances are that you are not maintaining proper posture and you are not being taken away from your routine enough to get the most out of the exercise. Try watching one of your favorite shows during cardio workouts or listening to some really upbeat and motivational music! If you have finished a show or playlist before you feel like stopping your workout--keep going! This will definitely get your workout working for you again!
Are Your Bored with Your Workout? A boring workout is not going to work for you at all! That's because when you get bored with your workout routine you are more likely to quit early, not workout at all, or pay less attention to the quality of the routine. All of these factors will make your workout work for you less and less. In fact, if you hate your workout routine and it causes you to skip workouts completely then your workout isn't working for you at all! If you find that you are bored with your workout routine you should make changes to pick things up and get motivated again!
Are You Incorporating Resistance Training into Your Routine Regularly? Finally, another common mistake that we make is to not add in strength training into our workout routine. If you have not been strength training at least three times per week then you need to start! If you are strength training and your workout still isn't working for you then you should alter your routine a bit so that you can get the most out of your workout!
