Top 5 Road Trip Destinations

Road trips can be a fun way to bond with family members or loved ones. There are so many great places across America where you can stop and sight see. I live in South Carolina, which of course, is in the Southeastern part of the United States, and I've found that there are so many places in North Carolina, South Carolina and surrounding states that make great road trip destinations. Here are some places that are in my top five list.

South of the Border is located in Dillon, SC. For at least a hundred miles before you reach it, signs start lining up on Interstate 95. It is definitely a place that you cannot miss. South of the Border features a 300 room motel, inside mini golf, five restaurants, ten stores, three gas stations, campground, and two fireworks stores. South of the Border also features Pedroland Park. This themed park has several amusement rides as well as arcades, which makes this a great place to take the kids to, or bring the kid in you out again. For more information visit their website at www.thesouthoftheborder.com.

If you travel around the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, you will most definitely begin to see the Great Smoky Mountains. It's said to be America's most visited National Park. The views from the top of the mountains are absolutely gorgeous, which makes the Smoky Mountains a place where you must stop. Entrance to the park is free, and campground sites are rented for overnight stays for a small fee. There are so many endless possibilities when you visit the Smoky Mountains that you will be waiting to come back. www.nps.gov/grsm

Tennessee holds a great place where I've always wanted to go, and that place is Dollywood. Owned by Dolly Parton, it is a wonderful place to visit for people of all ages. There are many festivals that go on throughout the year as well as amusement parks, theaters, museums, zoos, and aquariums. For more information visit www.dollywood.com.

If you're traveling through Georgia, Underground Atlanta is a wonderful place to visit. It's located in Downtown Atlanta on Upper Alabama Street. All sorts of vendors can be found in Underground Atlanta including, fortune tellers, homemade candies, restaurants, and shopping. At night time, clubs and restaurants are filled with entertainment. This is an exciting place for people of all ages to visit. www.underground-atlanta.com.

If your road trip lands you in Arizona, then you must try out a favorite spot of mine, The Flintstones Bedrock City. This is a small village that looks very much like the real one that is seen in the television cartoon. Bedrock City is equipped with a campground as well as what they call "Fred's Diner". You can even order Bronto Burgers just like Fred does. Plus, the site is only about 30 miles from the Grand Canyon. Visit www.bedrockcityaz.com for more information.
