Top 5 Rock Hits of the 80's

Every Breath You Take

A top hit from Sting and The Police in 1983 this soft ballad extols the broken heart of a betrayed man. "Every breath you take, every step you make... I'll be watching you" anyone else find it ironic that this song that pretty much talks about a guy stalking his ex was put out by a group called The Police?

Livin on a Prayer

Performed when the band had hair and lots of it, Livin on a Prayer has taken the top spot of #1 hit of the 80's according to VH1. This is a song that may come back into favor as the economy continues to slump. "Johnny used to work on the docks..." now he is down on his luck and living on a prayer, sound like anyone you know today?

Thriller

Love him or hate him for the things that have been in the media, no discussion on music from the 80's is complete without an honorable mention for Mikey. Thriller stole the American Music Awards in 1984 taking everything from best album to favorite pop/rock single for Billie Jean. The all time number one hit from this album though was the immortal Beat It.

Born in the USA

Another song/album that has taken on new meaning in this era. Bruce Springsteen hit it hard with this number one song from 1985. As the boys and girls return from foreign soil you will likely see this song gain new life.

Jack and Diane

The 80's was a time for celebrating the small town in middle America. John Cougars little ditty about Jack and Diane makes you nostalgic for Saturday night picture shows and an A&W root beer in a frost mug. A sweet song about a couple of kids growing up in the heartland.
