Top 5 Rock/Metal CD's in Our Collection

Jessaka Romine
I don't know that I could live without music. My world revolves around music. I have CD's for when I'm angry, sad, exercising, cooking, cleaning, soaking in the tub, driving, or just relaxing. Luckily, my husband is the same way. We buy CD's regularly. Music offers a way of de-stressing and relaxing for us. Not to mention the simple pleasure of enjoying music with original lyrics, sound, and that unique voice. Here's the top five in our collection at this moment.

Papa Roach - the paramour sessions

This cd is a must have for any collection if you like rock music. Every song on this cd is worth listening to a million times. My favorite songs are "Forever", "What Do You Do", and "Reckless". "Forever" is the ultimate love song. A spell binding beat and hypnotizing lyrics (Because days come and go, but my feelings for you are forever.) spiral you right into the song. "What Do You Do" is a song that hits me right in the heart. It relates to my life with startling clarity. It emphasizes the struggles and conflicts I am dealing with daily. (What do you do when it all comes down on you? Do you run and hide, or face the truth?) Those lyrics right there say it all. The combination of a strong beat, strong lyrics, and excellent vocals and guitars make this my song forever. "Reckless" pumps you up with the quick beat, quick lyrics, and of course, those mesmerizing vocals. "I'm reckless, so reckless. God save me from this madness."

Earshot - Two

I found this cd by accident. Every emotion you have ever experienced is in this cd. Fear, anger, regret, loneliness, love lost, and more are all there. Earshot took the raw emotions we experience and turned them into a passionate, dark album. Every song on this cd is worth listening to over and over. My favorites are "Wait" (I can't wait - for someone to hear me), "Fall Apart" (And everything starts to fall apart), and "Nice to Feel the Sun" (...and now I feel the sun - shining down on me - sometimes we have to live and be free).

Eighteen Visions - Eighteen Visions

The description I read before I bought this cd described this group as a combination of Def Lepard and AC/DC, which are two all time favorite groups. This turned out to be a great cd. Unique vocals and lyrics combined with some slow, hard rock and some metal makes for a cd to fit any mood. This is a CD you can listen to all the way through over and over again. "Our Darkest Days" exposes the strength we find in ourselves to keep going past the darkest days in our life to survive to another day. If you've ever been a victim, then "Victim" expresses the rage and anger you felt. "Last Night" slows down with a sad song to bring you back down to earth.

Skillet - Comatose

Skillet has found a way to combine orchestra and rock. I don't think anyone could have been able to combine the two in the way Skillet has done. Skillet's overall goal of promoting positive messages was well done. Comatose contains songs of hope. One of the most aggressive songs on Comatose is "Better Than Drugs". "The Last Night" is dark, yet at the same time, hopeful. The song sings of a person contemplating suicide after a life of despair without supportive parents. The person feels unable to live that way any longer. The song has a friend willing to be all the support and more needed to help this person through this hard time and beyond. (I won't let you say goodbye, and I'll be your reason why) A rocky relationship is outlined in "The Older I Get". "Whispers In The Dark" is my favorite song on this cd. (My love is, just waiting, to turn your tears to roses)

Stone Sour - Come What(ever) May

Come What(ever) May is Stone Sour's first album in four years. Their rock will win your over and find its place in your music collection. This cd features guest appearances from The Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee and Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin. Embracing a broad range of emotions, this album fits any mood. "Through Glass" sticks in your head for days. You wait for the next time you get to hear it. It has an unforgettable chorus. (All I know is that it feels like forever.) The evolution Stone Sour has experienced has been for the better. "Zzyzx Rd." wraps up the CD with a slow, hypnotizing melody. You stop whatever you're doing just so you can absorb the song.
