Top 5 SEC Players for 2009

Nick Mayer
1. Tim Tebow - Quarterback - Florida - This is the last year you will have to hear his name on the "Top college players" lists since he is finally a senior. It was a gimme that Tim Tebow is the top player in this year's preview. In his National Championship winning year (again) he threw for 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 673 yards and 12 touchdowns. Without a doubt, Tim Tebow will be the best quarterback in the conference and possibly even the nation and could easily repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner.

2. Jevan Snead - Quarterback - Ole Miss - Jevan Snead is one of the most underrated players in the SEC. After transferring out of the backup role for the University of Texas, Snead moved east to Ole Miss. Here, he threw for over 2,750 yards and 26 touchdowns. With the way Ole Miss is improving on both offense and defense, there is no reason that Jevan Snead cannot improve on those numbers this season.

3. Julio Jones - Wide Receiver - Alabama - Here is possibly the best receiver to come out of the SEC in years. Julio Jones was a highly touted wide receiver coming into college, and now that he is a sophomore he is finally ready to back his name up. Last season, as a freshman by the way, he caught 58 passes for 924 yards. He also brought in 4 touchdowns. Even though John Parker Wilson is gone this year, Julio Jones should have no ill effect of that. He is one of the best in the country and will without a doubt show that this year.

4. Emmanuel Moody - Running Back - Florida - The USC transfer Emmanuel Moody is primed to be the featured back in Florida this year. With Tim Tebow still under center for the Gators, Moody might have to wait one more year before he gets any national praise, but Moody will certainly deserve it after the numbers he will put up this year. Though his numbers were not too good last year, he should be ready to break out into the player that he was expected to be at USC.

5. Jonathon Crompton - Quarterback - Tennessee - Even though Tennessee has had their fair share of troubles lately, Jonathon Crompton should be able to overcome all of this and finally put together a good season. Crompton lost the starting job last year midway through the season, but this should not happen this year. As long as he keeps his head on straight, he will have a fine season and will be shown on ESPN regularly. This is a risky pick at #5, but I believe that he can put it together this year and all will be good at Rocky Top.
