Top 5 Shocking Moments in Music in 2009

Cynthia Springsteen
What are the top 5 shocking moments in music in 2009? What 5 things happened this past year that will probably be talked about in the years to come? There are not many people who do not listen to and follow the music industry. Music can be so comforting or make you just want to get up and dance. We enjoy going to concerts to see our favorite performers, buy their music, listen to them on our iPods and watch them on television. Looking back over the year 2009 what events happened that shocked us, created controversy and even made us cry?

1. Who could forget hearing the news that Michael Jackson, a legend in the music industry, died? Turning on the television and hearing that he was dead was a shock for everyone. At the time, most people probably didn't even believe it was true. We have heard his music for many years and remember his songs with his brothers. There probably isn't a person alive who hasn't heard the songs "Thriller" and "Beat It." We remember the Pepsi commercial when he got burned. We will never forget the moonwalk or his forever changing face. We also unfortunately will remember his scandals with children and hanging his baby over the balcony. Yet, most still loved him or at least loved his music and listening to him.

2. Miley Cyrus, a name we seem to hear quite a bit. She is someone who many of the younger people seem to admire and look up to. Many of her songs have been played so many times on the radio there aren't many people who don't know who she is. Some of her songs seem to be hits with the teens, but she seems to be mostly admired by the younger people. How shocked were we to see her on the "Teen Choice Awards" pole dancing? She won nine awards that night and yet we have to wonder what else she won that night? Many parents were not very happy about what they saw, especially for their younger generation children who admire this performer. How shocked were we when her dad Billy Ray Cyrus didn't see any problems with what she did? Hello, she is only 16 years old and dancing with a pole on television in front of all her younger admirers and this was okay with her dad?

3. Here we are sitting watching the Video Music Awards, and they are awarding the Best Female Video. Who wins but Taylor Swift, a teen pop sensation who is loved and admired by many. Everyone is happy and what happens next shocks us all, Kanye West goes on stage, takes the microphone from her and starts protesting his support for Beyonce! Did anyone not feel extremely sad for Taylor Swift on what had to be one of the happiest moments for her? What was she to say or do? How was this poor girl not totally embarrassed? According to reports West actually even flipped off the crowd before returning to his seat. It was nice to see her on Saturday Night Live have a little humor about this incident and get a little pay back to this tragic event.

4. Let us move on to the Grammy Awards now. Everyone was anxiously awaiting Chris Brown and his long-term girlfriend Rihanna to show up. Rihanna was actually one of the Grammy Award's higher billings for the evening. To fill in for her absence they quickly put together an ensemble of Al Green, Justin Timberlake, Boyz II Men and Keith Urban. Wait, what happened to Chris Brown and Rihanna? Well as it turns out Chris Brown was arrested for assaulting Rihanna. He was released on a $50,000 bail, but this was a story not to be forgotten. What kind of man assaults a woman?

5. We all heard the name Adam Lambert because of American Idol. Here we are watching another awards show, this time The American Music Awards. This one made the big mistake of filming live! Adam Lambert was labeled a Wild Idol and I guess we all figured that out before the end of his mind blowing, kids-watching-with-us performance. Lambert dragged some of his dancers by their harnesses, both men and women, and caressed their legs. It would only get worse; he next had a brief make-out session with his male keyboardist and simulated oral sex from a male backup dancer. The producers of the show were not informed of what he was going to do and Lambert even told ABC that if they cut any parts of his performance for the West Coast rebroadcast it was considered discrimination. Are you kidding me, he thinks he did nothing wrong here? This is a show watched by families during prime time and he thought it was okay to display this kind of act? I am sure his fan base has decreased quite a bit because of this distasteful performance.

I am sure there were many other stories that transpired over the year 2009, but these are what I believe to be the Top 5 Shockers in Music. These are the stories that will be talked about for a long time and remembered in one way or another.

It seems that most of these were done on major music awards. It makes you wonder what they were thinking! nice info.
