Top 5 SNES Games

John West
#1: Chrono Trigger

This is one of the best RPGs of all time. It took the SNES Final Fantasy formula and expanded upon it with an excellent combat system, time travel elements and an amusing story with plenty of epic moments. One thing of note, however, is that the game is not worth playing if you do not listen to the music. The music is the glue that binds everything in the game together. Without the music, you will not enjoy this game.

#2: Megaman X1-3

I'm lumping these all together because they're all basically expansions on each other. The X series, the first three games, is excellent. The gameplay is fast and fun, the bosses challenging and the music catchy. Playing all three games is worth it when you reach the final boss of the 3rd and face one of the most epic boss fights in gaming history.

#3: Final Fantasy 4 (released as Final Fantasy 2)

Final Fantasy 4 is the best of the SNES era Final Fantasy games. Through a masterful use of archetypal character development and key moments accompanied by a wonderful music score, this game manages to have the best cast of any Final Fantasy game, despite its limitations. Combine that with a good story line and the world's enthralling atmosphere and you have a winning title.

#4: Terranigma

This is the third game in the Soul Blazer series by Enix. Terranigma has some of the most amazing music any video game has ever had and the overall theme of resurrecting the world carries with it a weight of emotional impact that turn this otherwise decently fun Zelda-type into an epic work of art.

#5: Super Mario World

While this is not my favorite game in the world, it deserves a place on this list from pure quality gameplay and its nostalgia factor. My most fond memory was accidentally finding the glitch that replaced Yoshi with one of the football players. I've never been able to replicate it, but I've read accounts of others who've run into it, confirming it wasn't just a flight of fancy in my youth.
