Top 5 Songs by Glam-Band Poison

Remember when Poison Talked Dirty to Us and Made Us Do the Unskinny Bop?

Kenzy England
Poison has been on my list of top rock bands since they first blew onto the music scene in 1986 with the onslaught of glam-rock bands. Not all of those bands captured my heart or attention. There was just something about Poison that made them special. Their music was amazing, their look was, well, glamorous, and they oozed sex appeal.

The first time I saw Bret Michaels was when Poison released their video for Talk Dirty to Me. I was weak in the knees and falling over myself. Yes, Bret Michaels was the premier glam-rock lead singer. There's no one else like him and there never will be again (okay, so Motley Crüe is a close second).

Most of my favorite songs from Poison are off of their Open Up and Say...Ahh! album - you know, those vinyl things we used to play on something called a record player? Of course, I love all things Poison but there are just certain songs that take me back to a simpler time in life.

Top 5 Songs by Poison:

Talk Dirty to Me (1986) - This song is from Poison's Look What the Cat Dragged In album. Talk Dirty to Me was released as a single in February 1987. VH1 named it the 40th best hard rock song of all time.

Talk Dirty to Me was written by Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Rikki Rockett, and Bobby Dall. The song was originally entitled At the Drive-In.

Nothin' but a Good Time (1988) - Included on Poison's Open Up and Say...Ahh! album. The song was released as a single that same year and reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nothin' but a Good Time was written by Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall, and Jordi Carretero (Bombilla).

Unskinny Bop (1990) - On Poison's Flesh & Blood album, Unskinny Bop has always been a favorite of mine. The term "unskinny bop" really has no meaning. DeVille had used it as a temporary measure and it just stuck. When this song comes on the radio these days, you will find me rockin' out, much to the horror of my 17-year-old daughter who probably wishes she were somewhere else.

Unskinny Bop was written by C.C. Deville, Bobby Dall, Brett Michaels, and Rikki Rockett.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn (1986) - This song can also be found on the Open Up and Say...Ahh! album and is one of Poison's most poignant songs. Its about how a man and woman have grown apart and how he wishes he'd done things differently. Every Rose Has Its Thorn is a very powerful rock ballad that continues to be popular almost 25-years after its release.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn was written by C.C. DeVille, Brett Michaels, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett.

Fallen Angel (1986) - Another great song from Poison's Open Up and Say...Ahh! album. It was the second single to be released and reached #12 on Billboard's Hot 100.

This is another meaningful song by Poison. It's about a girl who abandons her old life in small town USA and tries to make a go of it as an actress.

Fallen Angel was written by C.C. DeVille, Brett Michaels, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett.

There you have it. The top five songs by Poison according to me, a huge fan since 1986. Rock on, guys!

Poison band members have stayed busy with various projects and last toured together in 2009. Lead singer Bret Michaels has had a successful post-Poison solo career, has looked for love on Rock of Love on VH1, and can be seen on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.

I had a chance to see them in 1988 (I think that was the year) in Amarillo. My son got sick and I didn't get to go :(
