Top 5 Sports Movies EVER!

All-time Sports Movie Favorites.

1. HOOSIERS! This movie was made in 1986 and still packs a memorable punch. In this movie a man with a bad past and the town drunkard lead a high-school basketball team to contend for the championship. They go through many hardships together as a team and push through everything to be the best. It is a great movie for every basketball player to see. It provides great inspiration and always makes me want to get back out on the court. There are many different options for buying this DVD, see some of them here: www.amazon.com.

2. Remembering the Titans. This has become a classic for many different reasons. As laws are put into place to create equality for all races in America, a black coach (Denzel Washington) gets hired to coach a high-school football team. In the past, the team was composed of all white players, no there are black players to. The black coaches and the white coaches have to figure out how to work together to win, while the black players and white players have to figure out how to play, work, and protect each other. Two cultures clash but come out as one team. Great inspirational movie and it shows how far our country has really come to provide racial equality. Buy your copy of this DVD at : www.amazon.com.

3. Cool Runnings. This is one of my all-time favorite comedies and a great sports movie. It is based on the true story of the first Jamaican bobsled team that is trying to make it to the Olympics. A track runner, Derice Bannock, falls during his trials to make it to the Olympics but he decides he will get there one way or another. He gets a couple of his other track buddies you did not make it through the trials and he starts a bobsled team. Irving Blitzer (John Candy) is an ex-bobsledder who had 2 gold medals from the Olympics but was found cheating. Derice finds Irving and talks him into coaching the bobsled team and taking them to the Olympics. They make it through the problems of fundraising, pass the time trials, and get into fights with the Swedish team. I cannot spoil the ending for you, so you just have to see it yourself. This story shows how people help others and how one team can bring together a country. Buy your own copy at: www.amazon.com.

4. The Rookie. What would a "Top 5" movie list be without at least one baseball movie? A high-school baseball coach (Denis Quaid) had been a top rated baseball player in the minors before he had a shoulder injury. His team knows he is still good, so they cut a deal with him: If they win the championship, he has to try out for a major league organization. They go from being the worst to being the best, so he has to try out. Against all odds, he makes the team and enjoys his shot at a major league career. This is a good, clean film for every family. Get your copy at: www.amazon.com.

5. Glory Road. Glory Road faces some of the same issues that Remembering the Titans does, but it does it with a basketball story. A white coach girls coach (Josh Lucas) gets hired to coach a mens college basketball team in Texas. The school has very little scholarship money, so the coach is having a hard time finding recruits. He spends his own money to go out across the country and recruit. He gives everyone a chance, black or white, skin does not matter to him. The school boosters dislike the fact that the coach is giving black players a spot on the team and even lets them start each game. Fighting against racial prejudice, the coach and team work hard and make it to the championship. To find out if they win or not, you will have to watch the movie yourself. It is a clean movie with a good story line and great acting to back it up. Buy your copy at: www.amazon.com.

True, it was very tough! But thank you for your recommendations!

There are so many that could have made the list - Slapshot, Rocky, A League of Their Own, Brian's Song...it's really tough to narrow it down to five.

How about Rudy and Without Limits?
