Christopher Cutter
Sports Movies are often underappreciated and undermined as some of the best movies made in Hollywood. However, they are as timeless and as powerful as their cinematic great rivals. Included in this list are movies that continue to define generations as they are passed down through the family. The Top 5 Sports Movies of All- Time are:

5. Space Jam: A sports movie that defined a generation and fused the likes of animation, Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny. Space Jam features other guest appearances by NBA greats such as: Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and Muggsy Bogues. Space jam is a great movie for the family and for this reason claims our number 5 slot on our Top 5 list of greatest sports movies of all time.

4. Green Street Hooligans: What would a list of sports movies be without a slot dedicated to the biggest sport in the world, soccer? Green Street Hooligans stars Elijah Wood (Sin City, Lord of the Rings Trilogy), an American aspiring journalist who infiltrates a football firm inside the underworld of English Premier League's West Ham United. A great drama like the three movies that top this list, this movie is more about the human condition than the sport itself.

3. Miracle: This 2004 biopic about the 1980 United States Olympic Hockey Team is as inspiring as it is riveting. Starring Kurt Russell as the coach with an array of enigmatic techniques, he builds a team of collegiate athletes and turns them into a gold winning upset story, just the thing Hollywood loves. This is a great adaptation and is well done, knowing the end doesn't seem to matter while watching this great sports movie.

2. On the Waterfront: Perhaps the best movie on the list for quality reasons, this is an epic tale about a boxer who never was. Marlon Brando gives an epic portrayal of a washed up boxer named Terry Malloy who works on the docks. Elia Kazan directed this masterpiece and its greatness secured it a spot on the AFI top 100 movies of all-time list. The quote " I could of been a contender," resonates to this day setting this drama apart from all sports movies before or after it.

1. Rudy: The quintessential sports movie, a movie about a dreamer, who has been told he's too small to play football his entire life, Rudy overcomes all odds and ends up fulfilling his dream of playing for Notre Dame. No other movie on this list has the universality of greatness, a sports movie for all generations, something passed down like a baseball glove from father to son.
