5 of the Best Sports Movies to Watch

Whether or not you are a sports fan, these top sports movies feature dramatic stories that keep you interested throughout. Each of these top sports movies provides interesting story lines, compelling characters and inspiration which make them a part of my top 5 sports movies of all time.

Million Dollar Baby (2004) R

This Oscar winning 2004 sports movie features Clint Eastwood, Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman. Hillary Swank plays boxer Maggie Fitzgerald who is determined to make it to the top. The compelling story inspires viewers through Fitzgerald's determination and hard work to rise the ranks of female boxers making it one of my top sports movies to date.

We Are Marshall (2006) PG

As one of the best sports movies, this sports drama is based on a true story. A plane crash takes the lives of most of the Marshall University football team. The new coach Jack Lengyel played by Matthew McConaughey builds a new team from crash survivors and others to help renew the football program and community. This top sports movie is available in both DVD and Blu-ray formats.

Hoosiers (1986) PG

Another real life drama, Hoosiers is a classic sports movie featuring a timeless story that earned it an Oscar-nomination. Based in a small-town in Indiana, the film features the 1954 Hickory Huskers basketball team led by Coach Norman Dale played by Gene Hackman. With a story that is truly inspirational this film remains as one of the best sports movies of all time over 20 years after the initial release.

Remember the Titans (2000) PG

Inspirational and sentimental this top sports movie is a fact-based drama set in 1971. In Alexandria, Virginia African American Herman Boone played by Denzel Washington is selected to head the newly integrated football team. A moving film that confronts racial and social issues of faced by the community during the early 70's which making it one of the best sports movies to date.

Field of Dreams (1989) PG

Another one of the top sports movies of all time, Field of Dreams is a classic sports drama based on a book. The film stars Kevin Costner who plays an Iowa famer who hears a voice telling him to build a baseball field in his cornfield. He follows the wishes of the voices and is amazed with the spirits of baseball greats return to the field to play. A feel good sports movie, that continues to be in my list of best sports movies produced so far.

Each of the films included in my list of best sports movies of all time are available from online rental stores like Netflix and at most local movie rental outlets.
