Top 5 Summer Weekday Events for Families in Phoenix

Steve Thompson

Whether you're visiting Phoenix on vacation or planning a family staycation in the city, you don't have to spend all week lounging around the house. There are plenty of family-friendly weekday events to keep your schedule full and the kids entertained.

1. Phoenix Museum of Art

Museums might seem a bit stuffy, but they both teach and entertain, and are perfect for weekday fun. Families can visit the Phoenix Museum of Art on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and free KidPacks are available for children ages 6-10. The KidPacks contain coloring pages, activities cards, and other fun challenges related to the art they will see in the museum.

Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for kids between the ages of six and 17, and kids under six get in free. Wednesday evenings from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. are free, unless you choose to make a voluntary donation. There is a restaurant inside the museum if you decide to make a day of it, and guided tours of special parts of the museum run at noon every day.

2. CrackerJax

Billed as a "family fun and sports park," CrackerJax is located in Scottsdale, just twenty-five minutes from downtown Phoenix, and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every weekday. Play a round of miniature golf, hit the ball back and forth in one of three volleyball courts, or get doused by a waterfall in the bumper boat lagoon.

Summers are a particularly busy time at CrackerJax, and summer specials are offered to help keep your costs down, such as the four-hour Unlimited wristband. Kids of all ages can find something to do, and you can read a book or play with the kids, depending on your energy level.

3. Enchanted Island Amusement Park

Weekdays with little ones can be challenging because many of the standard kid-friendly events are for older children. Enchanted Island Amusement Park might be a workable solution. The park offers a $7 wristband Wednesday mornings, which means you can enjoy the entire park for less than half the prices of regular admission.

Grab brass rings on the Encanto Carousel, engage in competition in the Kiddie Cars, or cool off in the Splash Zone. There are plenty of activities for the little kids, but older children will also have a blast.

4. Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix

Phoenix summers are hot, but water parks like Phoenix Wet 'n' Wild are often too busy to be enjoyable. Not so on weekdays, however, when you can enjoy the attractions without all the crowds. Wet 'n' Wild is the newest water park in the Phoenix area, and boasts dozens of shiny new rides for kids and adults alike.

5. Cerreta Candy Company Factory Tour

What do kids (and, let's face it, many adults) enjoy more than a piece of candy? The Cerreta Candy Company provides tours of its facility Monday through Friday, once at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Learn how each of their products is made, from start to finish, and sample treats from one of Phoenix area's most celebrated traditions.
