Top 5 Television Series on National Geographic Channel

Quality Programming from Nat Geo

Liz Copeland
The National Geographic Channel has a lot of really great programming. I've been asked to narrow their selection down to 5 shows for you, so I'm going to break down some of my favorites on the National Geographic Channel line-up.

Taboo

Time: Check Local Listings

Premise: Taboo discusses practices in other cultures that would be considered shocking or horrifying in others, including ours.

I can't possibly say enough about this show from the National Geographic Channel. It offers vivid portrayals of other cultures and the people within them with an in-depth understanding of their rituals and practices. Sometimes the show even focuses on less-known practices in familiar cultures. For example, "Bizarre Bodies" will be airing again on the National Geographic Channel on April 1st, and it's about tattooing the whites of your eyes. Taboo is always worth tuning in for.

Dog Whisperer

Time: Fridays at 8pm

Premise: Cesar Millan is the Dog Whisperer, and he tackles problem pets to make dog owners' lives a lot easier.

People love this National Geographic Channel show for a million reasons, but of course, dog lovers like it the best. Cesar Millan regularly tackles some really difficult pet situations with knowledgeable insight about dog behavior and how to curb problems.

Wild

Time: Check Local Listings

Premise: Animal experts explore some of the world's most interesting animals in their own territory

I love this show on the National Geographic Channel, because it gives me a glimpse into the natural behavior of "common animals" as well as teaching me about animals I might normally not have bothered to learn about. In fact, this show is pretty much like ZooBooks for grown-ups.

Naked Science

Time: Thursdays at 10pm

Premise: Exploring new finds and debunking science myths.

I love this National Geographic Channel show because it's not just about explaining recent scientific research conclusions, it's also about figuring out if common science-related assumptions are actually true, and they break it down into terms we can all understand. An upcoming show is about the NASA rovers on Mars. Don't forget to check out the quizzes on the National Geographic Channel website to see how much knowledge you've retained about the show.

Inside

Time: Wednesdays at 10 p.m.

Premise: National Geographic Channel has found its way into some of the most mysterious and dangerous groups on Earth.

This show is relatively new to me, but it's growing on me pretty quickly. They've examined groups like the New Black Panthers and the American Nazis. They've also examined the Army's Green Berets. For the next show being aired, they're going in-depth about the Chicago Mob.

These are only 5 of the many awesome and varied shows available on the National Geographic Channel, and I hope you'll tune in and expand your horizons soon. The National Geographic Channel seems to excel at making learning personal and I'm sure you'll enjoy their line-up.
