Top 5 Tips to Beat a Cold

Dale Miller
At one time or another, everyone experiences the common cold. There's no cure for it but, there are several things you can do to help feel better sooner. You can get past your cold more comfortably by using some of these suggestions in your home.

Take some vitamin C. You can get it from oranges, orange juice and many other foods. The vitamin comes in capsules and are even chewable. This could help shorten your cold from 7 days to 2. The coughing and sneezing could be less aggravating throughout the day also.

Eating Zinc lozenges or taking some Zinc in a capsule form should reduce your sore throat and cough symptoms. There are different lozenges on the market that have honey or citrus in them that taste a little better. Be careful not to have too much Zinc because it could be harmful in extremely large doses.

Warm up with a favorite blanket like the one your family member gave you for Christmas. This will let your immune system concentrate on eliminating the cold and not being interrupted by trying to keep you warm. Take a hot shower or bath. This will clear your congestion so you can breathe more freely and moisten your dry throat.

Eat chicken soup. It is a proven fact that hot soup relieves nasal congestion. It allows your nose to get rid of mucus and remove germs from your body. Drink plenty of water, Gatorade and tea which will also replace important fluids lost and help flush out germs from your body.

Finally, getting some rest and relaxing enables your immune system to put all of its energy into feeling well again. Don't try to keep up with your regular routine and all your chores. Take a nap or two during the day. Watch a few movies that have been collecting dust in your library. Sit back and watch TV and read some magazines. What ever you do just make sure you take it easy so you don't over do it and develop more symptoms.

These are some of the best suggestions that I have learned could help you feel better and get rid of that bothersome cold sooner than later. Don't forget to stock up on medicine, liquids and tissues. Staying home and avoiding stores keeps your germs to yourself. Coughing and sneezing into your arm doesn't spread germs around your home to get your family sick. After you start to feel better in a few days, it's a good idea to disinfect the house so that will eliminate any remaining germs.
