Top 5 Tips for Throwing a Bachelorette Party

Jessica DelBalzo
Bachelorette parties can be awkward events if they're not planned with care. To avoid throwing (or attending) another uncomfortable girl's night out, follow these simple tips.

1. Don't agree to plan a party for someone you don't know very well. If your future sister-in-law has named you maid-of-honor after only a few short meetings, enlist the help of her close girlfriends to find out what kind of party the bride will appreciate the most.

2. Location, location, location! Bachelorette parties are supposed to present the perfect opportunity for the bride to cut loose and go a little bit wild before she ties the knot. Select a party spot that will allow your guest of honor to relax and enjoy the moment. A shy girl might prefer to celebrate at someone's home, where she will feel secure making bawdy jokes in the company of her close friends. Other women may prefer going out to a club or party spot, where they can drink and make merry among a crowd of well-wishers.

3. Make it fun! Your target bride may get a kick out of sexy shaped ice cubes in her drinks, or a penis shaped cake. On the other hand, she may be the type to prefer a celebratory veil and a more sophisticated spa day or ladies' tea party. In other words, don't plan a party with strippers and sex toys unless you know that's what the bride wants!

4. Start early. Don't expect to throw together a memorable bachelorette party at a moment's notice. Plan ahead so that you have your bachelorette party decorations, food, and entertainment prepared. This will give you the chance to rest up on the day of the party so that you can have as much fun as the bride!

5. Don't forget the party favors. A bachelorette party isn't complete without inspired party favors. Whether you pass out goody bags full of massage oils or slutty fortune cookies, make sure all your guests take away a fun reminder of their girlfriend's last night as a sexy singleton.

Combine all these tips with an ounce of preparation and a pint of humor, and the next bachelorette party you host will be a surefire success!
